From Bomb Threats to Indecent Exposure, This Was the Casino Week in Crime

The casino industry has been under increased scrutiny in recent weeks due to a series of high-profile crimes occurring in and around popular gaming venues across the United States. From theft to bomb threats and even indecent exposure, the scandals have revealed a rather unsavory side to the excitement and glamour casinos offer millions of visitors every year.

Theft at Encore Boston Harbor

One of the most famous cases of casino crime in recent weeks concerned Gary Hunt, son of former Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. He was arrested and charged for reportedly stealing more than $10,000 in casino chips from Encore Boston Harbor. The theft occurred earlier this week and drew extensive media attention due to Hunt’s family background and the nature of the crime.

According to reports, Hunt, who had a history of mental health and addiction struggles, visited the casino but did not engage in any gambling activities. Eyewitnesses said he engaged in small talk at a gaming table and then caused a distraction, swiping $13,000 in chips. Following a police investigation, Hunt was identified as the suspect and subsequently arrested. His mother said she was “devastated” by the incident.

Bomb Threat at Hollywood Park Casino

In yet another frightening incident, a bomb threat at the Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, California, sent a bunch of gamblers scurrying out of the premises, clinging to their chips. The incident occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. It resulted in a heavy deployment of police from the Inglewood Police Department, who turned out with a bomb squad in tow.

Authorities ordered an evacuation of the patrons from the casino floor and a sweep of the premises, which thankfully turned up nothing indicative of a bomb, and the casino was declared safe. Even so, the incident shook many patrons to the core by highlighting the ever-present risk of such threats in high-traffic public venues.

Indecent Exposure at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

In Florida, something weird happened Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. Abdul Rahman Zaina, a 27-year-old man from Queens, New York, was arrested for allegedly exposing himself in the poker room at a casino. According to reports, Zaina unbuttoned his pants and exposed his genitalia in full view to the other patrons there.

When asked to leave by members of the casino’s staff, Zaina refused and continued to cause a scene, throwing a bottle at one of the dealers and a security officer. The casino had no choice but to call law enforcement, ending with Zaina’s arrest. The incident has sparked discussions about security protocols in casinos and the challenges of managing disruptive behavior in such establishments.

While casinos continue to be popular destinations for entertainment and gaming, these recent events serve as a reminder of the need for robust security measures and constant vigilance by personnel. As the gaming industry grows, ensuring the safety and integrity of gaming environments will be crucial to maintaining public trust and confidence.
