Ontario-igaming-revenue-reaches-CA-3.20-billion-in-2024-25Ontario’s regulated online gambling sector achieved a major milestone in its third full year, generating CA$3.2 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the 2024-25 fiscal year. According to data from iGaming Ontario, this represents a 32% increase from the previous year, setting a new benchmark for the province’s iGaming performance.

Casino Sector Leads Revenue Surge

From April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, Ontario players placed CA$82.7 billion in total wagers, up 31% year-on-year. This impressive growth was fueled primarily by the casino segment, where players wagered CA$69.6 billion, marking a 34% increase compared to 2023-24. Casino gaming revenue alone rose 36% to CA$2.4 billion, maintaining its position as the primary contributor to Ontario’s online gaming market.

The betting sector also demonstrated solid gains, with wagers increasing 17% to CA$11.4 billion and generating CA$724 million in revenue—a 23% year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, peer-to-peer (P2P) poker reported wagers of CA$1.7 billion, edging up 2% over the previous year. However, poker gaming revenue remained steady at CA$66 million, showing no change from 2023-24.

iGaming Ontario’s figures reveal consistent growth across all categories, showcasing the depth and maturity of the province’s open, competitive market. Wagering activity peaked in the final quarter, reaching CA$22.9 billion between January and March 2025, up slightly from CA$22.7 billion in Q3.

Notably, Q4 2024-25 also delivered record quarterly revenue of CA$903 million, an 8.9% increase from the previous quarter. iGaming Ontario emphasized that the figures published remain unaudited and subject to minor adjustments.

Increased Player Activity and Monthly Reporting

Ontario’s online gaming ecosystem continued to expand not only in terms of financial performance but also in player participation. Data for March 2025 shows that 1.1 million player accounts were active, with an average revenue per active account of CA$278. During that month alone, operators reported CA$294.8 million in total revenue, reflecting a 22.3% year-over-year increase and a 5.3% rise from February’s figures.

The shift to monthly reporting, initiated earlier in 2025, aims to provide more frequent insights into market trends. Reports now exclude figures from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) igaming offerings and pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing, focusing exclusively on operators partnered with Ontario iGaming.

Chair of the iGaming Ontario Board, Heidi Reinhart, praised the sector’s development: “These results show Ontario is home to a truly dynamic iGaming market with a strong roster of operators, and a world-class list of games available for players.” Reinhart highlighted that the regulated environment not only fosters competition but also provides a safer playing environment for Ontarians.

According to a recent IPSOS study commissioned by iGaming Ontario and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), 83.7% of players are choosing regulated platforms. However, 20.2% of those still engage with unregulated sites, suggesting ongoing work remains to strengthen player protections.

Outlook for Ontario’s iGaming Sector

Since the market’s launch in April 2022, Ontario has rapidly established itself as Canada’s leading online gaming hub. Beyond impressive financial results, the year also saw the province pioneering responsible gaming initiatives, notably with the creation of the first centralized self-exclusion system in 2024.

Ontario’s momentum also came amid wider industry developments, such as a survey by the Responsible Gambling Council showing that 48% of Super Bowl LIX viewers planned to place bets. Meanwhile, regulatory reforms in Alberta, modeled after Ontario’s framework, signal growing influence for the province’s approach to online gaming.

Looking ahead, iGaming Ontario continues to expand transparency efforts, offering monthly, detailed market reports and refreshed multi-tab data visualizations to stakeholders.

With 49 licensed operators managing 84 active websites, Ontario’s thriving iGaming environment remains a benchmark for regulated online gambling markets worldwide. As Ontario’s leadership in online gaming continues, industry stakeholders and players alike can expect further innovations and growth in the years ahead.
