Gaming-in-Spain-Conference-announces-agendaThe upcoming Gaming in Spain Conference, scheduled for June 26 at the Auditorio ECIJA in Madrid, will once again bring together regulators, legal experts, and industry leaders for a day of insights, discussions, and cross-border collaboration. This year’s event reflects a broadened scope, with a strong focus not only on Spain’s regulated market but also on key developments across Latin America.

Focus on Spain’s Changing Regulatory Landscape

The agenda, still being finalized, features multiple sessions centered around Spain’s evolving approach to gambling regulation. Among the highlighted presentations is “Algorithms, Advertising & Deposit Limits: Outlines and Obligations,” led by Mikel Arana, Director General of the Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ). Arana is also confirmed as the event’s keynote speaker and is expected to address the country’s continued push to frame gambling as a public health issue.

Regulatory perspectives will further be explored by Xavi Muñoz, Partner at ECIJA Law Firm, who will provide a detailed update on legal developments affecting operators in the Spanish market. A related session titled “The Spanish iGaming Market in Numbers: Increasing Black-Market Popularity?” will be delivered by Josh Hodgson, COO of H2 Gambling Capital, examining potential unintended consequences of stringent regulations.

Market sustainability and regulatory burdens are also on the agenda, with a panel featuring Jorge Hinojosa (Director General, Jdigital), Ester Martin-Ortega (Head of Public Affairs and Sustainability, Flutter Entertainment), and Camille Gonzálvez (Gaming Lawyer, ECIJA). Additional Spain-centric topics include compliance, AML challenges, and operational opportunities tied to specific regions such as Ceuta and Melilla.

Latin America Joins the Spotlight

This year’s conference will give significant attention to Latin American markets, described as increasingly regulated and full of potential for growth. “This year, we have decided to look a bit beyond Spain’s borders – at the opportunities offered by Latin America’s booming and increasingly regulated markets,” said Willem van Oort, Founder of Gaming in Spain. “Even so, Spain remains the focal point of our event.”

Sessions covering this broader view include a regulatory update on Brazil led by Matheus Puppe (Partner, ECIJA Brazil), and a regional panel discussion titled “The State of Play in Promising LatAm Markets.” This panel brings together Eduardo Benavides (Managing Partner, ECIJA Peru), Matheus Puppe, and Polibio Velenzuela (Partner, ECIJA Dominican Republic) to assess business environments across Latin America.

Workshops, Networking, and Awards

The event isn’t limited to panels and presentations. On June 25—the day before the main conference—attendees will have access to three workshops that include certificate-based training in internal auditing, the EU’s AI Act and GDPR, and how to foster a learning culture within gambling organizations. These sessions are complimentary for all paying attendees.

The conference also promises abundant networking opportunities, with scheduled coffee breaks, lunch, and evening networking drinks. Attendees will additionally be invited to the Jdigital Awards, which will recognize contributions that have positively shaped Spain’s licensed online gambling market.

Registration for the Gaming in Spain Conference 2025 is now open. The full agenda and updates can be accessed via the official website.
