Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has announced that Richard Brown is stepping down as CEO and moving to a board advisory position until 31 December 2023. This change is effective immediately and complements the company’s long-term restructuring efforts. The split should unlock the full potential of each business unit by providing them with enhanced strategic and financial flexibility.

Brown Leaves Behind a Legacy of Success

GiG’s planned split will give rise to two industry-leading companies, each with the potential for accelerated growth compared to the existing corporate structure. To facilitate this transition and ensure the success of each business unit, GiG made several crucial leadership changes, culminating with Richard Brown’s decision to step down from his position as CEO.

Petter Nylander, GiG Chairman of the Board, will assume the role of Executive Chairman during the transitional period until the proposed split, overseeing the company’s strategic review. He thanked Brown for his long-time contributions, expressing gratitude for his decision to accept the board advisory position and ensure a smooth transition.

The board wants to thank Richard for his valuable contribution to GiG over the years. We are pleased that Richard will be available until year-end to secure the succession.

Petter Nylander, GiG Executive Chairman

This arrangement will give the new leadership teams the autonomy and mandate to efficiently lead their respective business units while benefiting from Brown’s background support. The former CEO commented that GiG was at an all-time high, presenting a perfect opportunity for him to step down. He was confident his successors would preserve the company’s legacy and drive future success.

The New CEOs Will Help Ensure a Smooth Transition

Richard Carter will lead GiG’s Platform & Sportsbook business unit and should gain full autonomy after the planned split. He stepped into the CEO position in August, providing knowledgeable and experienced leadership for this crucial division. Carter will leverage his expertise to ensure the enduring success of GiG’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) vertical, servicing over 40 business partners in 35 markets worldwide.

Jonas Warrer will retain his leadership position in GiG Media. Serving as the CEO of this business unit, his experience, and expertise will be pivotal in preserving the GiG brand’s enduring popularity and laying the groundwork for new collaborations. His input was instrumental in several of the company’s recent partnerships, so both new divisions seem in good hands.

We now have two strong CEOs with full operational responsibility for each business unit.

Petter Nylander, GiG Executive Chairman

GiG’s strategic decision to divide the company presents significant short-term challenges as the two teams adjust to their new position. However, the company’s leadership position and history of success should provide a stable foundation for the split. Brown’s transition to an advisory role is a pivotal part of this strategy, enabling GiG to navigate this challenging period.

The independent administrative body that supervises and regulates gambling services in the European side of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has announced that Adriane Koppe and Monique van Oers would be taking over their chairmanship duties from J.M.E. Feije. Feije’s term will expire in June.

The KSA Decided to Split the Role Between Two Chairpersons

The reason why Kansspelautoriteit decided to split the chairperson position between two people was due to the increase recorded in the number of sanction decisions. As a consequence, KSA also recorded a larger number of objection procedures.

Chairman René Jansen expressed content for having found “two worthy successors for J.M.E. Feije,” while also acknowledging her efforts and thanking her for them. Jansen also added that the administrative body founded in 2012 by the industry with the help of gambling levies considered itself “very fortunate” to be joined by the two knowledgeable and well-experienced chairpersons who will tackle their objection procedures in the future.

Both Chairpersons to Serve for Three Years

The body that is governed by a board of directors also announced that Koppe and van Oers will each be serving a three-year term. Koppe is currently a lecturer in constitutional and administrative law at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, a position she has occupied since August 2016. Van Oers is the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets’ (ACM) director of legal affairs, a position she has occupied for more than a decade.

For close to seven years between 1990 and 1997, Van Oers was also director of the legal department and team manager for The Netherlands’ Competition Authority which merged into ACM on April 1, 2013. Van Oers was also a lawyer for De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek

KSA’s Strategy for 2020-2024

While preserving an objective view of gambling, the authority considers it is essential for the activity to be safe and fair. Their main purpose is to nurture a world “where gambling services are reliable, operators are transparent and players are protected.”

As a declared mission, the KSA wishes to make sure that consumers can play safely. To do this, they will continue to protect consumers, prevent gambling addiction, and fight off illegal and criminal practices.

One of their latest actions targeted two lottery operators, Postcode Loterij and VriendenLoterij, for providing online games that they were not legally allowed to offer according to their current lottery license statuses. The two operators are now facing fines of up €1 million ($1.07 million) provided they do not put a stop to their activities.

Before that, the KSA issued another fine worth €45,000 ($48,000) to Merkur Casino for enabling a player that had used the self-exclusion options to enter the premises in Almere.

In March, the authority imposed a €4,4 million ($4.7 million) financial penalty against Gammix Limited for providing services to customers in the Netherlands without a license.

The company has expanded its Advisory Board with new officers who will be helping the organization better guide policies on responsible gambling in North America. Among the new additions is Christopher Hebert, director of the Gaming Division in the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.

New Appointees Strengthen the NCPG

Hebert will step in the position of chair of the advisory board, and he is replacing the outgoing incumbent, Oregon Lottery director of corporate social responsibility, Stacy Shaw. Fittingly, Martin Lycka is the new vice chair. Lycka is Entain Group’s SVP of American regulatory affairs & responsible gambling, and one of the biggest proponents of championing safe gambling practices in the North American market.

Commenting on these appointments, Keith Whyte, NCPG’s executive director, said that he was pleased to expand the NCPG’s board expertise with two important additions. “We are incredibly pleased,” Whyte noted, and said:

They have both been highly engaged leaders in our field for years, and we are excited to utilize their talents and expertise in a new way. I look forward to working closely with the full advisory board to advance the organization’s mission and our ambitious goals for the future.

Keith Whyte, NCPG’s executive director

Hebert was similarly excited to be joining the team. He said that the NCPG had been unrivaled in its efforts to tackle gambling-related harm and bring more awareness to the issue. Hebert called the opportunity humbling and he intended to give it his best and serve as advisory board chair to the benefit of the organization and consumers in North America.

He is a well-seasoned veteran with a lot of fitting legal background. Hebert served for more than 17 years as assistant attorney general and has worked actively on the creation of the Problem Gambling Resource Services program which he collaborated on with the Louisiana Department of Health.

Responsible Gambling Is the Ultimate Goal

The goal of the program is to help promote awareness for responsible gambling while addressing problem gambling and abolishing gambling-related stigma, helping vulnerable individuals get linked with treatment options.

Lycka was similarly excited at this fresh opportunity. As a trustee at the Entain Foundation US, a different entity set up to specifically look into responsible gambling, corporate compliance and sports integrity, he has been intimately involved with promoting the principles of safer gambling.

“The National Council on Problem Gambling is widely recognized as a nationwide leader in problem gambling awareness, education, and advocacy,” Lycka stated in welcoming his new appointment and said that he will be honored to be the vice chair and help forward the NCPG cause.
