Engaging Conference Program and Notable Speakers

The summit featured an extensive conference program spread across four stages, with contributions from 300 industry leaders, offering attendees abundant learning opportunities. The event provided a platform to identify challenges, discuss solutions, and explore the potential of North American markets for both regional and global companies.

Among the notable speakers were BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt, seasoned professionals like Jan Jones Blackhurst, and former football legend Dan Marino. Insightful perspectives were shared by Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus on taxation and Shawn Fluharty, President of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (NCLGS), who advocated for model iGaming legislation. Donna Orender, former President of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), added to the diversity of topics covered, ensuring a comprehensive discussion.

Stephanie Maxwell, Deputy Director and General Counsel of the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council, highlighted the event’s value, stating, “Being here and having the opportunity to listen to panellists and learn how they’ve addressed specific issues and pain points, it’s been really helpful.”

Kenneth Fuchs, COO of Caesars Digital, added, “The conference is organized in a way that makes it easy to find what interests you and the topics are generally useful regardless of your role in the industry. Everybody can come here and learn something.”

Networking and Inclusivity

Sarah Brennan, Senior Director of Compliance at BetMGM, shared her perspective as a speaker, noting, “One of the unique aspects of SBC is the very personal interaction prior to participating in this event, which allows you to speak on a panel that’s truly relevant to your personal experience in your professional capacity right now.”

The post-event survey for exhibitors and sponsors revealed a very strong Net Promoter Score (NPS), reaffirming SBC’s dedication to providing unique experiences and value to its customers. With 100 brands showcasing as exhibitors and sponsors, there was a notably diverse representation of companies.

Brennan emphasized, “There’s a big focus on inviting different groups; I saw a lot of vendors this year that hadn’t been at SBC previously, and many regulators are here. SBC does a great job of being very inclusive about who is represented, both from the US and across the globe.”

Sam (Shmulik) Segal, Co-Founder and CEO of MediaTroopers, a long-time sponsor but first-time exhibitor, remarked, “We decided to exhibit as this is our most important market and SBC Summit North America is the most important conference of the year. We always conduct a lot of business here; all of our partners are present. This year, we thought it was time to have a stand of our own so that people who don’t know the company can get to know it.”

Diverse Networking Events and Industry Insights

The show floor buzzed with various networking events, from gatherings for women in gaming to those for the tribal community, as well as meet-ups dedicated to responsible gambling. SBC’s objective of fostering diverse representation at the event was evident through the array of attendees.

Maxwell pointed out, “I’m a regulator in Tennessee, and our motivation (for attending this event) is the opportunity to connect with all the different kinds of people we work with – other regulators, vendors, operators.”

“The event has definitely evolved. There are way more people here. A lot more people, new entries, and new faces, and it’s exciting to see that every year honestly,” added Brett Hoffman, Founder of Gator Wagers.

Fuchs agreed, “Everybody that I generally want to catch up with is here, whether it’s across payments, data, innovation, or other operator peers, or people I know from the media, so it’s a nice mix of the industry.”

Segal added, “It seems that this time it’s even more packed than in previous years – we’ve seen everyone we’re working with in North America, everyone. It was amazing for us.”

In typical SBC fashion, the evenings concluded with networking events held at NY hotspots such as Slate NYC, Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge at Moxy Times Square, and the iconic Red Bull Arena.

Shawn Fluharty, who apart from his function as President of NCLGS, is also the Head of Government Affairs at Play’n GO, a headline sponsor of the party at Slate, commented, “You have companies from all over the world convening here because they know they’re going to shake hands with the people who are important in the industry and make those connections.”

Slot influencer Kelly Koffler was brief but expressive: “My biggest takeaway from the event is that you guys throw one hell of a party!” The Casino Kelly streamer, summarized the essence of the event well. “There’s a lot of value for anyone doing what I’m doing, because iGaming is only becoming more prevalent, so the more we learn, the more we can give to our viewers. They look up to us to be educated, so this is perfect for that.”

Mark Hicks, Managing Director of the NCAA, remarked, “This is the best event to attend throughout the year. Everybody we need to see is here, and the educational sessions are phenomenal.”

A lucky man from Albuquerque, New Mexico, won the grand prize from the popular game Lotto America recently. The man, who became the first New Mexico Lottery player to secure a jackpot from the game, won the grand prize from the draw on November 4, 2023. Identified as Neil Cochran, the lucky winner visited the New Mexico Lottery headquarters earlier this week to collect the grand prize of $3.52 million, won from Lotto America.

To win the grand prize, Cochran guessed correctly all five white balls with numbers 8, 11, 23, 47, 48 and Star Ball number 4. He purchased the winning ticket at Speedway #9093 at 6570 Paradise Blvd NW in Albuquerque. Since there was no other winning jackpot ticket from the draw on November 4, the lucky man collected the whole grand prize himself.

After discovering that he was the winner of the jackpot prize, Cochran told his mother. The woman initially thought that he and his girlfriend were pulling a prank on her, saying that she didn’t believe them. Undoubtedly, she changed her mind when she saw her son holding the oversized check with the $3.52 million jackpot sum written on it.

The Winner Picked the Numbers Himself

Visiting Speedway ahead of the draw on November 4, Cochran was offered by a store employee to participate in the lottery. The employee remembered the lucky winner who told them that Lotto America has better odds than Mega Millions and Powerball. Cochran was further attracted to the game by the fact that the ticket cost was only $1.

Once he decided to play, the lucky man did not use randomly generated numbers by Quick Pick. Instead, Cochran had numbers in mind that he picked himself. Besides Lotto America, the man purchased tickets for Mega Millions and Powerball games too. True to his gut feeling that he would be the winner, Cochran used the same numbers for all three games.

Earlier this week, the Powerball jackpot survived the draw on Wednesday. The latest draw of the game didn’t have a grand prize winner, nor a winner that collected a second-tier prize of $1 million for guessing correctly all white balls. With hours left until the drawing on Saturday, the Powerball jackpot is expected to hit $220 million or $101.2 million in cash value.

The Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour has now become the first pickleball organization to join the sports betting hype and launch wagering markets. The FanDuel Sportsbook, one of the biggest operators in North America, has inaugurated the markets, becoming the first company to offer official data-powered markets and live video feeds on pickleball.

According to the announcement, FanDuel’s PPA Tour offerings will be available in 10 US states and one Canadian province. Bettors in those regions will be able to wager on a variety of events, including the Vulcan Kansas City Open, which starts today.

FanDuel will offer a number of markets, including match winners, correct match scores, total points (over/under) and head-to-head. At the same time, the PPA Tour will work together with Genius Sports to provide data and live video feeds to its partnering sportsbooks.

In the meantime, FanDuel collaborated with YouTube for a special NFL promotion.

The PPA Tour hopes that more sportsbooks will add pickleball markets once the discipline secures regulatory approval in additional states.

In line with the launch of betting markets, PPA Tour athletes and staff are now subject to the Tour Sports Betting and Integrity Policy and were required to complete a digital learning platform on integrity and player wellbeing. Sportradar assisted the tour in creating the platform and its Sports Betting and Integrity Policy.

The PPA Tour promised that it will make sure that all customers who opt to wager on the league will also have access to sufficient safer gambling tools.

The Launch of Betting Is an Important Moment for Pickleball

Connor Pardoe, PPA Tour’s founder and CEO, commented on the launch of betting markets, calling it a “monumental moment” for the association and the sport as a whole. Pardoe expressed his excitement, saying that he is glad that more and more people wish to watch pickleball and bet on matches.

Legal sports wagering and fantasy sports participation in North America has experienced significant growth, according to a study conducted by the Angus Reid Group for the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association (FSGA)

Study Reveals Decrease in Fantasy Players and Sports Bettors Crossover

The study also highlighted a decrease in the crossover between fantasy players and sports bettors, with exclusive fantasy players increasing from 13% to 21% year-over-year, exclusive bettors rising from 28% to 34% year-over-year, and the crossover audience decreasing from 59% to 45% year-over-year. These findings indicate that consumers are becoming more selective in their gaming preferences, emphasizing the importance for companies to better understand their players and offer tailored games based on their interests.

Furthermore, the research revealed a migration of existing bettors from offshore accounts to regulated ones, with a 48% year-over-year drop in sports bettors using offshore accounts in legal markets and a halving of those using in-person bookies.

The study estimated that over the past year, there was a total of $102 billion in handle/entry fees across legal sports wagering, fantasy sports, and affiliated ancillary services. Notably, the fantasy sports industry experienced a 60% growth in entry fees from 2017 to 2023, reaching $11.5 billion. This significant increase suggests that the industry has not only stabilized but also that players are more engaged.

Additionally, approximately 60% of fantasy sports players and sports bettors pay for live sports packages or premium content, spending an average of $119 per year for fantasy players and $129 per year for sports bettors.

FSGA Chair Applauds Industry Growth and Safer Betting Options

FSGA Research Committee Chair Daniel Haight expressed excitement about the industry’s growth and the decrease in offshore betting activity, emphasizing the importance of regulated alternatives that provide responsible gaming measures.

The study also uncovered other insights, including the consolidation and engagement of Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) players and the importance of retention within the sports betting universe rather than acquiring new customers. It noted a decline in fantasy sports play in Canada due to the emergence of legalized sports wagering and unsustainable paid fantasy regulations in Ontario.

The research reaffirmed that sports bettors and fantasy players are predominantly younger males, highlighting their value as a customer base, particularly in terms of potential partnerships. With the market maturing and consolidating, companies will focus on improving user experience to enhance players’ and bettors’ platform usage. The FSGA Chair, Brandon Loeschner, noted that the study results would aid the industry’s growth and improvement.

EGR has just announced the winners of its 2023 EGR North America Awards, an annual initiative that celebrates excellence in the NA iGaming sector. This year’s format saw EGR award Gold, Silver and Bronze awards to the top three companies across its headline categories.

Headline Categories

The sports betting specialist Sportradar was awarded Gold recognition in the Acquisition and retention partner category. It is not hard to see why, considering all of the company’s recent activity and robust expansion strategy. Next up in this category is Optimove, followed by Betting Hero in third place.

Meanwhile, NeoGames secured the Gold award in the Best new game category. The developer has been developing a variety of new titles, always keeping its customers engaged with new content. It won the award thanks to its Desert Fantasy release. NeoGames was followed by Evolution, which secured the Silver award thanks to its Live Caps slot and Greentube which grabbed the Bronze thanks to its Thunder Cash: Voodoo Magic title.

Meanwhile, the Best product innovation Gold award went to PointsBet. OneComply was able to grab the Silver, with Kambi getting the Bronze.

White Hat Studios was crowned as the US Rising star, followed by Odds on Compliance, which took the Silver award. Finally, Betr took the Bronze recognition in this category.

This category saw EGR elect but a single winner, which is Better Collective, a leading developer of educational platforms within iGaming. The group, which has been in business for almost two decades, continues with its mission to make sports entertainment more fun and engaging for the end customers.

General Categories

In addition to some of the Headline categories, EGR’s General Categories include the Diversity & inclusion model award and the Employer of the year award. For reference, the former of these went to the geolocation specialist GeoComply, while the latter was grabbed by Betting Hero.

Operator Categories

In addition to the B2B-oriented awards, EGR also celebrated the achievements of some of the best operators in North America. The gambling giant BetMGM took the Casino operator award at the awards. Rush Street Interactive, on the other hand, secured Customer services operator recognition. The Fantasy & DFS operator award went to PrizePicks, while FanDuel grabbed the Marketing campaign award.

Meanwhile, DraftKings was celebrated as Operator of the year, while the Entain Foundation took EGR’s newest award, Safer Gambling Operator of 2023.

EGR handed the Social gaming operator award to HIGH 5 CASINO and the Sports betting operator award to FanDuel.
