Nevada-Gaming-Revenue-Decline-in-AprilNevada’s gambling industry reported total revenue of $1.24bn (£977.0m/€1.15bn) for April 2024, marking a notable increase from the previous year but also indicating a second consecutive month of decline. This figure represents a 6.9% increase from the $1.16bn recorded in April 2023. However, it is a 3.9% decrease from the $1.29bn generated in March 2024. Notably, March’s revenue was already lower than February’s, which had been bolstered by Nevada hosting the NFL’s Super Bowl.

Once again, slot machines remained the leading revenue source for Nevada operators, bringing in a total of $886.8m, which is a 5.9% rise from April 2023. Within the slot machine category, multi-denomination slots were the top earners, generating $586.8m, a significant 26.4% increase from the previous year.

High-stakes slots also performed well, with $25 machines seeing a revenue surge of 137.6% and $100 machines increasing by 14.5%. Conversely, lower-stakes slot machines experienced a year-on-year revenue decline.

Table Games and Card Games Boost Revenue

Revenue from table, counter, and card games, including sports betting, rose by 9.8% to $353.4m. In this segment, blackjack was the most profitable, generating $110.2m, up 16.0% year-on-year. Baccarat also saw a substantial increase, with revenue climbing 72.5% to $76.1m. Roulette followed with a 4.6% increase to $35.9m.

In contrast, craps revenue dropped by 25.5% to $30.3m, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em saw a slight decline of 1.1%, bringing in $15.1m.

Decline in Sports Betting Revenue

The sports betting sector saw a 5.0% decrease in revenue, totaling $30.8m in April. Basketball betting generated the highest revenue at $13.3m, though this was a 12.1% drop from the previous year. Baseball betting revenue increased by 18.4% to $10.7m, and hockey wagering saw a substantial rise of 74.2%, reaching $5.7m.

Football betting resulted in a $5.7m loss for operators, although this was a 17.1% improvement compared to April 2023. Wagering on other sports brought in $6.8m, down 31.6% from the previous year. Notably, $24.5m of all sports betting revenue in Nevada was generated through online wagering.

Las Vegas Strip Revenue Overview

Revenue on the iconic Las Vegas Strip reached $666.1m in April, which is 6.6% higher than the same month last year but 7.0% lower than in March 2024. Slot machine revenue on the Strip increased by 5.1% to $409.3m, with high-stakes machines showing the most improvement. Multi-denomination slots led the category with $276.9m in revenue, up 28.2%.

Revenue from table, counter, and card games on the Strip amounted to $256.8m, a 9.2% year-on-year increase. Blackjack was the top performer in this category, generating $81.7m, up 10.2%, followed closely by baccarat with $76.7m, which saw an 11.6% increase. However, sports betting revenue on the Strip fell by 26.5% to $9.7m in April.

Key Developments in Nevada’s Gambling Sector

Beyond revenue figures, Nevada has seen significant developments in its gambling sector recently. Earlier this month, London-listed Entain received unconditional approval to operate in Nevada. The company currently operates in the US through BetMGM, a joint venture with MGM Resorts. Entain had previously operated under a series of temporary licenses due to concerns from the Nevada Gaming Commission about its activities in unregulated markets. The recent full approval indicates that the Commission now considers these concerns to be resolved.

Additionally, Gaming and Leisure Properties (GLPI) announced a $105m acquisition of three casino resorts in South Dakota and Nevada. This includes the acquisition of Baldini’s Casino in Nevada, which spans nine acres and houses around 492 slot machines. GLPI also secured the Silverado Franklin Hotel & Gaming Complex and Deadwood Mountain Grand casino in South Dakota.

International Game Technology’s Wheel of Fortune and MegaJackpots slots have made three very lucky players happy in April.

Wheel of Fortune and MegaJackpots are the two games that paid out the impressive trio of life-changing jackpots last month.

Since their official launch almost three decades ago in 1996, Wheel of Fortune slots have generated more than 1,100 millionaires while crossing over the $3.5 billion milestone in paid jackpots.

Nevada and Michigan Winners on the List

The first slot player who scooped up one of the three million-dollar-plus jackpots was Reno resident Michael

On April 4, while passing time and waiting for his friend, Michael tried his luck on the Double Diamond Wheel of Fortune slot machine at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada.

The game, nicknamed “Millionaire Maker”, lived up to its name after helping Michael hit a massive $1,794,169.54 jackpot.

Just one week later, on April 11, an unidentified player at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas decided to sit down and try his luck on the Wheel of Fortune Diamond Spins 2X Wilds game.

It only took him a very lucky and lucrative $7 spin to bet himself $1,106,270.82, according to the news that emerged from the game manufacturer’s spokesperson.

“One million, one million reasons to celebrate!” read @IGTJackpots’s X post on April 29.

This wasn’t the first time for a Golden Nugget bettor in Las Vegas to hit the million-dollar jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine in the past year.

Last September, another lucky gamer scooped up a $1,520,751.38 jackpot on the Wheel of Fortune Gold Spin Triple Gold machine.

The third and last winner in the exciting April trio was recorded on April 19, when an online MegaJackpots player grabbed the $1,108,315 jackpot while engaged in a MegaJackpots JungleTower game on FanDuel Casino in Michigan.

The global leader in gaming delivering entertaining and responsible gaming experiences ranging from Gaming Machines and Lotteries to Sports Betting and Digital has recently continued its multi-level progressive momentum with the launch of Tiger and Dragon on the PeakCurve49 Cabinet.

The fresh game had its debut on casino floors nationwide, mixing new and classic mechanics with high bonus frequencies to generate an entertainment experience packing a lot of action.
Earlier in the month, IGT released a strong Q1 report and published its outlook for FY 2024.

new_york_online_sports_betting_handle_tops_dlr1_6bn_in_aprilIn April, the New York State Gaming Commission revealed a robust sports betting handle of nearly $1.97 billion, narrowly missing the $2 billion mark, marking the fourth time in history it came close to this milestone. The impressive figures were partly fueled by revenue collected in the final week of March, which was absorbed into April’s financial records due to the state’s fiscal year starting on April 1st. Consequently, there was a notable 6.2% month-over-month increase in handle from March, a rarity in the industry, accompanied by a 20.6% surge in sports betting revenue, reaching $184 million.

This handle places New York fourth all-time nationally in the post-PASPA era, reaffirming the state’s monopoly on top-10 all-time totals. Similarly, the revenue total ranks fourth overall, with the Empire State claiming eight of the top-10 monthly operator winnings, leaving states like New Jersey and Ohio trailing with just one apiece.

Steady Growth and Revenue Surge

Comparing April 2024 to the same period in 2023, there was a notable 27.1% increase in handle and a 32.1% surge in revenue, showcasing a steady growth trajectory in New York’s sports betting landscape. The total accepted bets through the first four months of 2024 reached $7.57 billion, marking a 14.4% increase from the previous year. Moreover, the near-9% win rate generated $679.6 million in revenue, a substantial 21.1% increase.

The state collected $93.8 million in taxes, with the bulk of it sourced from New York’s nine mobile operators, demonstrating the significant economic contribution of the sports betting industry. Year-to-date, the state’s tax receipts stand at $345.1 million, surpassing last year’s pace by $59.6 million and on track to exceed $1 billion, doubling the initial projections set by former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

FanDuel’s Remarkable Performance

FanDuel showcased an impressive recovery with an 11.7% hold, avoiding its third consecutive month with a sub-10% hold. This achievement is noteworthy, especially considering the challenges faced in the early months of mobile betting in New York. With a win rate of 11.7%, FanDuel amassed $91 million in revenue from $780.5 million worth of wagers, surpassing $1.8 billion in total revenue in the Empire State.

Distinct Performances of Leading Operators

DraftKings witnessed a remarkable 42.7% year-over-year increase in handle, reaching $737 million, while maintaining a solid 8.6% hold, resulting in a substantial revenue of $63.2 million for April. Caesars, however, experienced a decline in market share, with its 8.1% contribution to the total mobile handle marking an all-time low. Despite this, Caesars managed to surpass $400 million in total revenue.

Fanatics Sportsbook, in its first full month as an operator in New York, reported $5.6 million in revenue, setting an all-time high, with a 7.5% hold. Similarly, BetRivers and BetMGM showcased steady performances, contributing to the diverse landscape of sports betting operators in the state.

May’s Promising Start

The first week of May saw a promising surge in sports betting activity, with a combined handle of $484.1 million among the nine mobile operators. DraftKings led the pack with its second-highest week of action, totaling $217.2 million in handle. FanDuel, accounting for more than half of the operator winnings for the week, reported $12.6 million, contributing to the overall positive momentum in New York’s sports betting industry.

The revenue generated by Maryland’s casino operators has experienced a significant decline, according to the latest report. As it turns out, the state’s six casinos generated approximately $163.2 million in revenue from table games and slots – a figure that represents a decrease of $11.6 million year-on-year.

The gaming industry’s contributions to the state reflected the decrease in revenue and declined by almost $2.6 million to approximately $69.8 million.

The figures reported by the casinos show year-on-year declines across the board. Only one casino, namely the Hollywood Casino in Cecil County, managed to beat the odds and report a revenue growth. For context, that property’s revenue increased by 6% to $7.93 million.

In the meantime, the Live! Casino and Hotel in Anne Arundel Country, a property boasting some 3,800+ slots and approximately 180 table games, experienced a revenue decline of $1.14 million. Despite the slight decline, the property’s overall revenue still stood at $60.86 million.

Ocean Downs Casino in Worchester County, on the other hand, experienced a decline of 7,6% to $7.32 million. MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County, meanwhile, reported a revenue decline of 9.8% to $68.8 million.

Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore reported a decline of 10.8%. Rocky Gap Casino in Allegany County got the worst of it as its revenue plummeted by 20.6%.

A Man Was Robbed at Horseshoe Baltimore

Speaking of Horseshoe Casino, the property recently became the site of an armed robbery. In late April, a man named Justin was approached by two masked robbers who pointed guns at his head and asked him to give them all of his valuables. Fearing for his life, Justin complied.

The man later told local news outlets that casino goers should feel safer than that. He questioned the property’s lack of security, saying that the garage is an obvious spot where criminals could strike. However, such areas of “real terror” are currently completely undefended.

In other news, Maryland continues its efforts to legalize online gaming. However, an iGaming bill was deferred to 2026 amid various setbacks.

LIVESPINS_JOINS_FORCES_WITH_NOLIMIT_CITY_Nolimit City, a provider of online slots that push the limits enters a milestone agreement with Livespins, the social live-streaming platform, to provide players unparalleled gaming experience. Thanks to this agreement, consumers will be able to enjoy the studio’s finest hits from a completely new perspective.

Making this deal particularly interesting is that both brands operate under Evolution’s umbrella. The immense network of players to serve is one of the most prominent benefits resulting from this strategic partnership.

As a small reminder, Evolution’s plans for the Livespins acquisition were announced in February this year. The completion of the acquisition will take place in Q2 2024, for an up-front consideration of EUR 5 million.

Engagement to the Max

Highly volatile gameplay is one of the most notable characteristics of Nolimit City’s slot games, which is precisely what players will be the most thrilled with. As a result of the agreement, consumers will be able to spin the reels of top-performing adventures among which Tombstone RIP, Mental, Fire in the Hole, and many more.

Malcolm Mizzi, Commercial Director at Nolimit City, commented on the deal as follows:

“Our games deliver thrilling action with each spin. They are volatile with unique mechanics that provide the gripping gameplay that streamers need to keep their audiences engaged.”

According to Mizzi, this cooperation will get their games significantly better visibility, while securing authentic player experience. As he believes, this partnership has tremendous potential and is bound to open a plethora of new opportunities for both companies.

The completion of the acquisition of Nolimit City by Evolution took place in August 2022 for an upfront consideration of EUR 200 million paid in cash.

Immersive Gaming Sessions

Following the deal closed between Nolimit City and Livespins, players get the chance to bet behind their favorite streamers and enjoy a fully immersive gaming session. On top of that, Livespins is integrated into the casino’s lobby, which means consumers can bet behind in a secure environment while having all the required protection tools at their disposal.

Livespins not only makes it possible for consumers to enjoy watching and betting behind their favorite streamers, brand ambassadors and celebrities fire up the reels, but it also gives them a chance to collect solid wins. Simply put, if the streamer wins, participating players win as well. Additionally, they can also drop reactions, emojis, and gifs, ensuring the action never stops.

Referring to the deal as the mega-addition to the company’s portfolio, Michael Pedersen, Chief Commercial Officer at Livespins, said:

“This is a developer that knows how to get players on the edge of their seats thanks to trademarked mechanics like xBet, xSplit, xWays, xNudge, and xGod which come wrapped up in some truly wondering themes.”

He also added that this collaboration, which unites together two Evolution-owned companies, brings lots of value not only to the companies but to the players as well.

Ensuring genuine shared experience, Livespins has proved to be a game-changer for operators in regulated markets all over the world. What makes this creative team different from ordinary streamers is the fact that their operations are fully compliant with local regulations, ensuring a safe and well-organized gaming environment.

Other poker guests will join producer, broadcaster, and poker commentator Justin Kelly in making live comments during the tournament’s Final Table on ACR Poker’s official Twitch channel on Wednesday, May 1 starting at 4:05 pm ET.

10537 players claimed the offer this month

The event will kickstart on Sunday, April 14, which will mark the first of five Day 1 options

Day 2 will be on Monday, April 29 while Day 3 will be on Tuesday, April 30. Players who

qualify for Day 2 are not allowed to sign up for any other Day 1 flight. The tournament does not offer the option to play a separate Day 1 after a player has qualified to obtain a bigger stack.

The buy-in has been set to $2,650 but poker players eager to participate will be given more affordable alternatives to grab a seat, including the Beast and Step tourneys and the Venom Fever satellites

Multiple Millionaires to Be Crowned

The tournament had its debut in 2019 with a $5 million guaranteed prize pool, followed by twice as much just two years later. Now, ACR Poker has announced they are “about to do the unimaginable, unthinkable, unmissable!”

This year’s winner of the Venom’s 5th Anniversary tournament will go home with a guaranteed prize of at least $1 million

Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, an integrated resort that will operate the casino under the Star Entertainment Group’s brand and logo, was originally slated to open in December 2023, but delays in construction and regulatory headwinds have slowed down the completion rate.

Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Will Experience Some Delay

Presently, Destination Brisbane Consortium, which is in charge of the resort, is owned by Star, which holds 50%, along with Hong Kong’s Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium International which own 25% each.

Updating the public, regulators, and partners about the expected delays, Star Group CEO and managing director Robbie Cooke said that the project has pretty much experienced the same pressures that other big projects in Australia suffered over the past months.

“We are disappointed, but this transformational development for Brisbane has been eight years in the making already, and it will be well worth the wait,” the executive said. However, he also gave reasons to be optimistic, assuring that the project will be a true game-changer that draws crowds from all over the world.

The resort is set to arrive at a time when competition in Asia is heating up with Thailand and Japan pressing on with their plans to build integrated resorts and boost their tourism. At the same time, Macau’s gambling sector has taken a hit as part of ample regulatory measures that seek to restrict gambling in order to boost consumer protection and other areas of the economy.

Star Group Still Optimistic about New Completion Schedule

The current delays notwithstanding, Star Group is confident about the project’s new timeline, and has confirmed that there have been specific milestones completed over the past weeks. As the building advances, almost all of the Sky Deck bridge section has been completed too. The 250-metre open-air rooftop runaway features bars and restaurants and can host up to 1,500 people.

The Star previously offered a sneak peek of its Sky Deck in February and has made significant progress on the structure since. The completed property is expected to attract 1.4 million tourists a year and offer a significant economic boost to Queensland.

The sports betting regulator in Ohio, the Ohio Casino Control Commission, has announced its latest report, revealing data regarding the performance of licensed mobile and retail sports betting operators in the state. The report unveils the figures for April, showing a drastic decrease in the betting handle when compared to a month earlier.

The new report shows that the total sports betting handle, including retail and mobile betting, hit $520,576,451 in April. This result, when compared to the nearly $740 million in betting handle reported a month earlier, in March, showed a significant decrease for Ohio. The result from this April was the worst one for the year so far, followed by the $639 million in sports betting wagers figure from February.

In contrast, for the first full month of legal betting action in Ohio, in January, the betting handle surpassed the billion-dollar mark by hitting $1.1 billion. Comparison to the figure from April shows that the betting handle plummeted by more than 50%.

A breakdown of the $520.6 million in betting handle reveals that the majority of the wagers were placed via mobile service providers. The lion’s share of the betting handle in April, or some $505.6 million, came from mobile betting activities, while retail outlets saw only $14.9 million in betting handle.

Based on those results, retail sportsbooks saw $1.5 million in revenue, while mobile sports betting operators reported $62.2 million in revenue for April. Not unexpectedly, those results marked a decrease when compared to the revenues reported in March. For comparison, in March, retail betting operators reported $2.8 million in revenue, while mobile sportsbooks saw $92.3 million in revenue.

FanDuel and DraftKings Remain at the Helm of Mobile Betting

According to the Commission’s latest figures, two mobile betting operators dominated the market in April. Those operators are FanDuel and DraftKings and their strong presence in the state comes as no surprise, considering that they are at the helm of betting activities around the US as well.

Although the results were close, FanDuel’s betting handle was slightly higher than the one reported by DraftKings. Overall, FanDuel’s betting handle was $184.6 million, compared to $161.2 million reported by DraftKings. The results represented $28 million and $17.2 million in revenue for FanDuel and DraftKings respectively.

This April, BetMGM performed well too with $38.1 million in betting handle, followed by bet365 with $36.9 million in reported betting handle. Caesars Sportsbook saw $27.5 million in betting handle, while Barstool recorded $23.5 million for April.
