A new program launched by the NCPG is now focusing entirely on Hispanic youths in the hopes of educating them about the pitfalls of gambling and the dangers of excessive gambling in Cleveland, Ohio.

NCPG Keen on Helping Vulnerable Groups to Beat Problem Gambling

The intuitive has been launched with the Hispanic Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program which was awarded $40,000 to help better educate the target group about the dangers of problem gambling.

The program will seek to educate 100 Hispanic students in middle and high school as part of comprehensive prevention efforts about gambling disorders. The program explained stated its goal thus:

The program aims to raise awareness to the dangers of at risk and problem-gambling behaviors with Middle and High School youth, these youth can then relate this to their peers and their families via 1-1 conversations, social media, print, posters, and other created media.

To have maximum impact, the program will operate as a bilingual initiative that will allow it to better connect with the target groups. The program is an important stepping stone in addressing problem gambling and gambling-related harm in Ohio. The state sees that 15% of Hispanic males aged 18-24 are at risk of developing a gambling disorder.

Addressing problem gambling with minorities has been a priority for many organizations engaged with furthering the understanding and advocating for safe and responsible gambling practices.

In places such as the United Kingdom, there has been research indicating that minorities tend to suffer from gambling disproportionately even though they make up a much smaller part of the people who participate in gambling as a whole.

The NCPG has been very active across different communities and is determined to bring the best possible campaigns and awareness initiatives to geographies and communities that may be impacted by various gambling-related problems.

Last week, the social media influencer and poker pro revealed that a $100,000 bad beat jackpot was nullified by San Antonio Poker Palace.

Exposing Cards Too Soon

In general, whenever a bad beat jackpot drops, the winner, loser and the players that participated in the particular hand can receive a percentage of the prize. The payout varies from one poker room to another, but besides payout structure, the poker rooms have other rules that seek to ensure the eligibility of the players whenever a bad beat hand drops.

Sadly, not following the rules results in a void of the bad beat jackpot and this is precisely the case for the San Antonio poker room. Trevino posted a video along with a written explanation from the gambling venue, revealing why the bad beat jackpot was nullified.

In a post on Facebook which was consequently deleted, the San Antonio gambling venue wrote that a bad beat hand was dealt which involved two players. The poker room said that sadly, the bad beat hand was nullified due to multiple infractions.

According to the poker room, the hand of one of the players was exposed before the action was completed. Additionally, the player with the losing hand did not confirm with a motion that they called nor said that verbally. “Player saw he had a losing hand after he was shown the exposed cards and then pushes his chips in,” wrote San Antonio Poker Palace.

The poker room reiterated that it is important for players to follow the rules, explaining: “We want to stress the importance of abiding by the house rules while maintaining the integrity of the game and promotion.”

Wootten’s suspicions led him to call the police, who arrested Tosa and his companions. Despite their arrest, the gamblers denied using any kind of computer to predict the outcome of the game. Only Marjanovic claimed to be a professional gambler who could win 70% of the time.

Bloomberg journalist Jack Hitt traveled to Croatia in November 2022 to meet the elusive gambling master, Nikola “Tosa” Tesanovic, who was believed to be the world’s most successful roulette player. After tracking Tosa through various addresses given to casinos over the years, Hitt managed to find a former neighbor who gave him Tosa’s phone number. 

Despite Tosa’s initial reluctance to talk to the press, he agreed to meet Hitt for dinner in Dubrovnik. During their conversation, Tosa denied using a roulette computer, likening the idea to something out of a James Bond film, and said that he learned to beat the game through practice. He showed a video of a roulette wheel he kept in his house to train his brain and revealed that his Croatian friend, Ratomir Jovanovic, had taught him.
