The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has agreed to expand its long-term partnership with sports data and tech specialist Genius Sports. Under the extended agreement, the latter party will leverage its unparalleled computer vision technology and AI-powered capabilities to enhance basketball leagues across the globe.

Under the new agreement, Genius Sports will continue to work with the FIBA for another 10 years, with the new term set to expire in 2035.

By supplying the basketball sector with new technology, Genius Sports will transform its entire data and video ecosystem. The sports technology specialist will provide a unified, connected solution to automate and synchronize the collection of live game statistics and video production with advanced player tracking, the announcement says.

To that end, Genius Sports will leverage its optical system that has been trained in the reading and understanding of live game plays. Its capabilities allow it to predict outcomes in real time, providing bettors with important insights.

This will mark the first time FIBA Leagues and National Federations have had access to an AI-powered automated player tracking system. Thanks to this, users will be able to access many cutting-edge coaching tools and analytics, automated officiating and broadcast augmentation tools.

Genius Sports Is Looking Forward to Enhancing Basketball Leagues

The new agreement will also cement Genius Sports as FIBA’s official data & video capture and production partner. The sports data specialist will also serve as the association’s official innovation & technology partner from 2025 onward.

Genius Sports, a leading sports data and technology provider, has expanded its existing agreement with sports betting giant FanDuel. Under the new arrangement, the former company will supply “America’s #1 sportsbook” with its transformative BetVision streaming solution.

BetVision was introduced earlier this year, revolutionizing NFL betting by combining streaming and betting to create immersive wagering experiences. Under the new deal, FanDuel will add BetVision to its premium NFL offering.

Thanks to the integration, FanDuel will enhance the sports viewing experience for its mobile consumers. The addition of BetVision into FanDuel’s sportsbook will allow fans to watch data-packed NFL games without leaving the app.

At the same time, Genius Sports, which continues to serve as the exclusive distributor of NFL Official League Data, will continue to provide FanDuel with access to NFL’s Next Gen Stats data and the official sports wagering data feed.

Genius Sports and FanDuel plan to integrate BetVision’s other key features in the future, including integrated betting odds, in-game betting alerts, data-driven augmentations and the ability to place bets without exiting the video player.

BetVision was originally launched in September, quickly proving itself as a tool that efficiently increases in-game wagers, customer engagement and retention rates. At the same time, BetVision supplies sportsbook customers with unparalleled customization options.

BetVision Will Improve the Fan Experience

Genius Sports has unveiled a new partnership with Snap, the company behind Snapchat. As agreed, the former company will provide immersive augmented reality (AR) fan experiences via Snapchat Lenses.

Genius Sports will leverage its status as the exclusive media and betting distributor of the NFL Official League Data and Next Gen Stats to engage sports fans on Snapchat, providing sports aficionados with “phone-based, highly sharable content.”

The sponsored Lens will provide Verizon, the NFL’s official 5G network, with a new AR-based way to connect fans. Verizon will notably be the first sponsor to run a Lens that uses Genius Sports’ cutting-edge tech.

Additionally, the agreement will see Genius Sports and Verizon’s 5G network supply live data visualizations and an AR commerce platform to Verizon’s NFL Lens.

The new Lens will be first presented on September 17 during the game between the LA Rams and the San Francisco 49ers at SoFi Stadium. Genius Sports promised fans real-time game stats, merch try-on and a 3D interactive map of the stadium, exclusively available to Verizon 5G users.

Fans will also be able to benefit from a 40% off offer for NFL+ Premium annual subscriptions.

The recently announced partnership extension comes ahead of the new basketball season set to launch on October 21, 2023.

The collaboration sees Genius Sports, which is currently the partner of more than 200 basketball federations and leagues across the globe, deliver FIBA LiveStats across all LNB competitions. As a result, the company will be capturing and distributing data such as play-by-play statistics that cater to different sports-focused platforms. Genius Sports, a data, technology and broadcast partner that powers the global ecosystem connecting sports, betting and media, has published its financial results for the second quarter of the year, highlighting its recent successes. The company’s revenue for the period exceeded the company’s expectations, causing it to update its guidance.

As reported by Genius Sports, its revenue exceeded the Q2 guidance of $80 million, sitting at $86.8 million at the end of the quarter. This represents a year-on-year increase of 22%.

Betting technology revenue increased by 27% year-on-year. Media technology and sports technology revenues, on the other hand, increased by 22% and 3%, respectively.

The company also reported group adjusted EBITDA of $15.7 million, which exceeds the guidance of $14 million. Year-to-date group adjusted EBITDA, meanwhile, more than quadrupled year-on-year to a stellar $24 million.

Furthermore, Genius Sports reported lower loss from operations. Whereas the company lost $39.7 million in Q2, 2022, it lost only $7.8 million in Q2, 2023. The favorable results were attributed to the improved underlying performance but the improvement was sadly offset by a $29 million reduction in gain on foreign currency.

Genius Sports updated its group revenue and adjusted EBITDA guidance for the year, following its spectacular performance during the quarter. According to Genius Sports, the company now expects group revenue to reach $410 million, instead of $400 million.

Adjusted EBITDA guidance, meanwhile, was updated from $49 million to $52 million. In addition, the company expects to expand group adjusted EBITDA margins from 5% in 2022 to 13% in 2023.

Q2 Was a Productive Period for the Company

In its report, Genius Sports also highlighted some of its achievements in Q2, which include, among other things, an extension of its strategic partnership with the National Football League. Moreover, it extended its official data partnership with Football DataCo.

Another sports agreement was an AI-powered tech expansion with the EPL and EFL through cutting-edge Second Spectrum technology. Genius also supplied the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 with innovative digital features, once again using Second Spectrum.

Genius Sports also expanded its integrity program with The German Football Association and secured a bunch of accolades, including Best Technology for College Sports at the Sports Technology Awards 2023 and the Sports Betting Supplier award at the EGR North America Awards 2023.

CEO Mark Locke commented on the performance. He said that the company has reached a “significant inflection point in its business.”

Locke said: “The ongoing success through the second quarter perfectly demonstrates our balanced approach in delivering near-term results, while accelerating Genius towards our long-term growth and profit targets.”

Sports data, content and technology firm, Genius Sports, announced an extension of its existing official data partnership with the data rights holder of UK football, Football DataCo.

The terms of the agreement with Football DataCo will allow Genius Sports to continue serving as the exclusive official supplier of low-latency live data from the English Premier League (EPL), English Football League (EFL) and Scottish Professional Football Leagues (SPFL) for sports betting purposes.

“The Premier League is the most popular league in world sport and Genius Sports has created the fastest, most accurate and secure feed on UK football to power first-class products for sportsbooks around the world,” commented Genius Sports’ chief executive officer Mark Locke.

Delighted to see the key partnership extended, Locke outlined that Genius Sports would “continue to power innovation” alongside an expansion of its “suite of AI-powered Second Spectrum Tracking Data technology” into the EFL Championship.

The renewed partnership will allow Genius Sports to continue providing low-latency official data to regulated sports betting operators around the world throughout the 2024-25 season. The sports data company has been linking UK football with sportsbooks since the start of the 2019-20 season, covering more than 4,000 fixtures per season.

Expanding Second Spectrum’s Championship Coverage

The partnership has also been expanded to include the capturing of sub-second, skeletal tracking data for all Sky Bet EFL Championship and Championship Play-Off matches via Genius Sports’ best-in-class Second Spectrum technology.

“Genius Sports and Second Spectrum continue to generate first-class data and provide innovative solutions for a variety of Football DataCo’s stakeholders,” said the general manager of Football DataCo, Adrian Ford, pointing out that “the technology is improving all the time [and by] extending the creative use of data [will help] improve the presentation of English and Scottish football.”

The expansion will see the installation of Genius Sports’ AI-powered tracking systems across all Championship grounds where they are not present already, empowering Genius Sports to capture rich positional data on every player, match official and the ball.

Second Spectrum will also provide teams and coaches from the Championship with access to its software delivering player performance metrics derived from tracking data and indexed to match video, an access their EPL colleagues have since 2020.

Augmentation Enhances Viewer Experience

Optical on-pitch data, including shot velocity, player speed, positional data, and other team and player insights, empowers Second Spectrum’s augmentation technology to generate automated graphics in real time while offering viewers high personalization options by overlaying the graphics onto the live broadcasts.

The new agreement with Football DataCo comes hot on the heels of Genius Sports’ expanded collaboration with the German Football Association (DFB) to protect the integrity of football in the country and help the association prevent match-fixing.

Other major developments for the company in the past few months include the agreement with the Vietnam Pro Basketball League (VBA), a new collaboration with the European League of Football (ELF) that represents American football competitions outside of North America, as well as the launch of  CFL LiveStats.

A week after signing a partnership with the VBA, Genius Sports, a company at the heart of the sports data ecosystem, has unveiled an expansion of its integrity cooperation with the German Football Association (DFB). Together, the two parties will protect the integrity of professional soccer and will stand united against the threats of match-fixing and betting-related corruption.

Genius Sports first joined forces with the German Football Association in 2019, when it agreed to provide it with its cutting-edge Bet Monitoring System. The system analyzes global odds movements from more than 7,500 games a year. Thanks to special algorithms, the solution is able to instantly identify potentially suspicious betting activity.

Under the expanded partnership, the DFB will still receive the constant monitoring and analysis Genius Sports offers. In addition to that, the association has now further reinforced its protection against corruption by leveraging Genius Sports’ Intelligence platform, provided in partnership with Clue.

As a result, the soccer body will now be able to spot suspicious patterns faster. The DFB will also enjoy increased visibility of threats to players, match officials and coaches. Thanks to Genius Sports’ global intelligence and transparency tools, the DFB will be able to better manage the risks across professional German soccer.

Finally, Genius Sports’ Intelligence system will provide the DFB with a centralized vault for all integrity reports. This will make investigations smoother while ensuring a fruitful partnership between the two parties.

The Deal Will Help the DFB Secure the Integrity of German Soccer

Eva Immerheiser, integrity officer at the DFB, highlighted the importance of protecting the integrity of soccer from gambling-related corruption and fraud. She said that the current deal is an opportunity to make fraud detection easier.

In the continuation of the cooperation with Genius as well as the intelligence upgrade with Clue, we see the opportunity to detect possible illicit patterns faster and to be able to intervene at an early stage. We look forward to working with Genius on a new level.

He said that his company’s partners require constant vigilance and product enhancements to keep up with the concerning fraud rates.
