Canada’s top-tier online sportsbook and casino, BET99, has selected the supplier of anti-fraud and geolocation solutions, GeoCompy, as its new geolocation provider for the Ontarian market

Last week, BET99 announced the launch of its new BET99 App in the Apple App Store during Week 1 of soccer. The app, which is currently live and available for download, has been designed “to deliver an elevated experience with an enhanced design” tailored to Canadian players’ preferences.

BET99 Looking to Boost Customer Experience, Compliance, and Revenue

BET99 has based its decision to partner with GeoComply on its desire to improve customer experience and boost its compliance and revenue

By using GeoComply’s new zero-download mobile and desktop solutions, the 2019-founded Toronto-based online gaming operator expects to open the player funnel and improve their conversion rates. This will be achieved by allowing mobile and desktop players alike to immediately prove their location on their platform without going through the hassle of leaving the current page or downloading any special plugins or apps.

Since GeoComply aims to protect operators during all stages of players’ journeys, BET99 can also expect to benefit from better anti-fraud solutions that can identify account takeovers, players who abuse bonuses, the use of spoofing devices, and other types of fraud.

These solutions will be provided starting with the sign-up procedure up to the depositing and cashout steps that all players must follow as part of their online experience.

The No Download Browser Solution

Bet99’s chief technology officer, Paul Nyzuk, expressed their excitement for the new partnership inked with GeoComply, which he described as having “more experience than any other geolocation provider and a commitment to innovation,” as proven by its brand new No Download Browser Solution

Nyzuk added that their top priority was to guarantee that players will enjoy the best experiences possible while reaching the highest compliance standards in the industry with GeoComply’s “cutting-edge technology.”

GeoComply’s senior vice president, Lindsay Slader, also expressed their thrill about BET99’s decision to adopt their fresh technology, explaining it would make geolocation compliance “easier than ever” while helping them stay compliant, safe, and profitable.

At the start of September, Simplebet announced it would launch micro-betting with Bet99 as part of its goal to take the betting world by storm. During the same month, GeoComply revealed a record surge in online betting in the context of the start of the NFL season

Geolocation specialist GeoComply has unveiled a new acquisition that will strengthen its business. According to the announcement, the company acquired OneComply, a supplier of comprehensive solutions that help gambling operators in regulated jurisdictions manage their obligations.

Modern iGaming is a dynamic and ever-evolving landscape that may be very difficult for companies to navigate. Each region has its own specific set of rules and as more and more markets regulate online gaming, remaining compliant becomes an increasingly hard task.

Luckily, OneComply’s platform provides companies with everything they need to ensure that they follow the rules. Thanks to the company’s solutions, operators can automate compliance, saving time and resources and preventing potential fines.

GeoComply has already used OneComply’s services and is well aware of the platform’s benefits and strengths. By acquiring OneComply, GeoComply will be able to provide the compliance specialist’s varied set of tools and solutions to its customers. OneComply’s portfolio includes a plethora of tools, covering the entire licensing process, from application to ongoing compliance management.

GeoComply Welcomed OneComply to the Family

GeoComply, which serves many companies in the gaming and financial technology sectors and beyond, is very happy with its new acquisition. Anna Sainsbury, chief executive officer of GeoComply, said that all previous interactions with OneComply have been positive. Because of that, the geolocation expert is excited to welcome its new subsidiary to the GeoComply family.

Licensing organizations and key individuals is necessary but can be a painful process for any entity working in regulated industries such as gaming or fintech. As an existing OneComply customer, we know just how much OneComply eases that pain, not just for us but also for the regulators administering the process.

Anna Sainsbury, CEO, GeoComply

Sainsbury noted that the inclusion of OneComply’s licensing platform in GeoComply’s portfolio will allow the latter company to help its customers maintain a gold standard in compliance and risk services.

She concluded that OneComply’s vast knowledge of regulatory matters will complement GeoComply’s geolocation savvy, helping the two companies meet the needs of the gambling sector and other regulated industries.

Cameron Conn, co-founder and chief executive officer of OneComply, also voiced his thoughts on the M&A deal. He admitted that GeoComply has always been an inspiration to him and Aaron Gould, OneComply’s other founder. As a result, the two of them are “super excited” about joining the broader GeoComply team.

I am sure that together we will amplify and enhance our world-class compliance and licensing solutions for regulated industries around the globe.

Cameron Conn, co-founder & CEO, OneComply

GeoComply and OneComply did not make the financial aspect of their deal public.

GeoComply will deploy its full suite of enhanced fraud detection and prevention measures to ensure that, as WPT Global continues to expand globally, players will be protected. The company will focus on ensuring that player data from across 85 countries around the world is protected and that ill-meaning players’ efforts to cheat or disrupt gameplay for others are foiled.

WPT Gets Security Beefed Up

The idea is to root out any bad actors who may try to sully WPT’s reputation by cheating and putting honest players at a disadvantage. Commenting on this partnership, A5 Labs head of security John Andress said that fraudsters and cheats have been an almost indelible part of the online poker community since day one.

However, things have got much better and not least thanks to the deployment of powerful anti-cheating and anti-fraud tools. Andress was optimistic about the future of WPT Global, a client to A5, which he believes will be able to move past cheaters and ensure a level playing field for all:

As our customer WPT Global embarks on a new journey, we were determined to invest in the tools needed to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminals. Investing in GeoComply’s market-leading technology will keep us one step ahead of the cheats no matter where they are based.

A5 Labs head of security John Andress

WPT Global has been going strong with more than 50 countries where the online poker site is available. The website has been up and running for almost a full year now, with an average of 15,000 daily active users, making it one of the most significant poker networks worldwide.

Tested in Practice, Guaranteed to Bring Results

A5 Labs has been working to help its partner actively tackle fraud and cheating so that the WPT brand can be synonymous with trust and fairness. While A5 Labs has been doing well on its own, investing in machine learning and data science solutions to tackle cheating, it will now leverage GeoComply’s unique expertise to take aim at bot groups and other fraudulent groups that may be acting in concert.

GeoComply VP sales and customer experience Mark Blunder said that he was delighted to see the opportunity to assist A5 Labs and WPT Global to counteract fraudulent practices in the global online poker community. Blunden added that the technology and solutions that GeoComply was able to deploy were in fact already tested and had been proven to succeed.

Ontario’s budding iGaming market continues to be targeted by international scammers, a recent GeoComply report highlighted. This news comes a year after online gambling was launched in the Canadian province.

The launch of iGaming and online sports betting in Ontario has proven a success. However, this success has also attracted a lot of fraudsters, the report shows. While GeoComply emphasized that customers are most protected when playing with licensed operators, it also added that a lot of people have been trying to cheat the system.

Ontario Attracted a Lot of Attention

Starting with the good news, GeoComply said that the number of total player accounts in the province is set to exceed a million. Revenue, meanwhile, is on track to smash half-a-billion Canadian dollars.

GeoComply added that the launch of iGaming in Ontario attracted a lot of attention from players all over the world. Since the regulated market was launched in April last year, over 744,000 international users have attempted to log in 19.9 million times to Ontario operators.

The geolocation specialist added that 54,000 users from the United States have attempted 305,000 logins. It concluded that a total of 3.3 million location spoofing attempts have been made.

Many Fraudsters Were Drawn to the Market

While the Ontario market attracted the attention of players all over the world, it, unfortunately, attracted the attention of many fraudsters as well. According to GeoComply, the first year of iGaming in the province saw over 219,000 devices blocked from gambling for fraud reasons. GeoComply noted that it has detected a whopping 1,045 fraud rings affecting multiple operators.

GeoComply’s services, in particular, prevented 127,000 devices known to be associated with fraud from accessing the market. In addition, 56,000 devices with multiple users (a usual sign of bonus abuse) were barred from playing.

GeoComply also banned 34,000 that used illicit software that hid the players’ actual location. Lastly, the geolocation specialist was able to identify and block 1,500 jailbroken devices.

DiRienzo Noted that Cybercrime Rates Are Rising

The matter was addressed by Danny DiRienzo, GeoComply’s director of risk services. He said that online fraud is a serious problem that continues to get worse. He noted that the recorded fraud attempts mostly included identity theft, bonus abuse and some instances of account takeovers and credit card chargebacks.

Ontario is such a large market and the opening of any market results in bonus offerings attracting fraudsters. This, coupled with the traditional gray market operations in Canada, resulted in experienced fraudsters hunting bonuses from day one, as anyone with a set of stolen identities could collect bonuses from several operators.

Danny DiRienzo

DiRienzo concluded that GeoComply will continue to vigilantly protect the Ontarian iGaming market from fraud.

Geolocation, fraud and risk solutions provider GeoComply announced a new senior-level appointment. On Friday, the company strengthened its C-suite by hiring Vadim Jelezniakov, an expert within the technology vertical, for the role of chief technology officer (CTO).

Overall, Jelezniakov brings more than two decades of experience. As a part of GeoComply, he will help oversee the development of new products, as well as services. Moreover, the new CTO will play a key role in driving GeoComply’s technology strategy.

The appointment marks a strategic announcement as Jelezniakov has a deep understanding of innovative technologies, as well as market trends. This makes him a key addition to the company’s executive-level team and he will undoubtedly play an important role in its continuous growth.

The recent appointment comes on the heels of another announcement from GeoComply. Earlier this week, the company revealed it joined forces with the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) to help with new research that focuses on self-exclusion programs. Per the terms of that collaboration, GeoComply agreed to fund the two-year research that seeks to determine what is the long-term effectiveness of such programs, implemented by online and land-based gambling operators.

The New CTO Delivers Significant Experience and Skills

Sharing his excitement Jelezniakov said that he is delighted to join GeoComply and deliver his extensive experience to a growing team of talented and dedicated experts. He said: “My goal is to help drive innovation and growth in new and existing market verticals by leveraging new technologies and developing products and services that meet the evolving needs of our customers.” Last but not least, Jelezniakov pointed out that the opportunity to join GeoComply is unique.

I am so excited to join GeoComply and work with such a talented and dedicated, industry-leading team.

Vadim Jelezniakov, chief technology officer at GeoComply

Jelezniakov has extensive experience in managing and building reliable, as well as scalable technology platforms. Throughout his professional career, he was a part of global companies such as Google, Amazon, as well as the New York Times. His professional background also includes a Director of Engineering role with Meta.

We are thrilled to have Vadim join our team.

Anna Sainsbury, co-founder and CEO of GeoComply

Anna Sainsbury, GeoComply’s co-founder and CEO, welcomed Jelezniakov to the company’s team. She acknowledged that he brings a unique skillset complemented by a track record within the technology industry. Finally, Sainsbury predicted that Jelezniakov will help GeoComply continue to grow.

Geolocation technology and services provider GeoComply announced it has teamed with the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) for a research project on self-exclusion programs.

Is Enhancing These Programs Beneficial?

The two-year research funded by GeoComply will study the long-term effectiveness of voluntary self-exclusion schemes implemented by land-based and online gambling operators to determine whether these programs would be beneficial for the industry.

Arthur B. Paikowski, president of the ICRG, commented on the partnership and the need for additional research on the prolonged efficacy of voluntary self-exclusion programs, explaining why further assessment of these programs is needed.

“There is a necessity to determine whether enhancing these programs would result in more customer participation and whether this would be beneficial,” he said.

The research will seek to provide answers to questions about the most effective long-term form of self-exclusion; the ideal time for a player to utilize a self-exclusion tool – both, online or at a land-based gaming venue; operator or regulator criteria for letting people who have self-excluded back into gaming; the potential stigmatizing effect of self-exclusion blocking people from using these tools; the most suitable way of registering; and others.

Happy to Support the ICRG’s Research

Highlighting the company’s commitment to responsible gambling initiatives since its inception over a decade ago, Anna Sainsbury, co-founder and chief executive officer of GeoComply, outlined the industry need for further evidence about the effectiveness of self-exclusion programs.

“We need more data to support the industry’s actions around RG, and I am really happy that we can support the ICRG’s research in this important area,” Sainsbury stated.

Dedicated to promoting responsible gambling practices worldwide, the ICRG is seeking to prevent people from experiencing problem gambling and reduce the harmful impact of excessive gambling on their lives by working closely with governments, regulators and industry stakeholders to promote responsible gambling policies and industry best practices, as well as engaging in research on gambling behavior and the risks of gambling.

The results of the two-year research on self-exclusion programs funded by GeoComply will be published in October 2025.

Last month, the geolocation technology and services provider announced that Super Bowl LVII registered 100 million geolocation checks, with 7.4 million user accounts accessing the service over the weekend and many bettors choosing to wager from the stadium while watching the game.

Also in February, GeoComply saw its patent infringement case against competitor Xpoint dismissed in court after a federal judge ruled GeoComply’s patent invalid, stating that it sought to patent subject matter that cannot be patented.
