Jordan Lewis Cook, a former Gun Lake Casino employee responsible for maintaining and unclogging the casino’s cash-out machines, has confessed to stealing over $84,500 in cash over a span of 14 months.

The federal charge against Cook is for theft from an Indian Tribal Organization, which carries a potential punishment of up to five years in prison and a hefty fine of $250,000. Cook is scheduled to be sentenced in January.

The series of thefts occurred between September 2021 and November 2022 at the popular Allegan County casino operated by the Gun Lake Tribe. Cook’s responsibilities included helping clear jams in the cash-out machines located in and around the casino floor. To perform this task, he used a key card to open the machines, removed the cassettes holding currency in various denominations, and addressed any misfed or crinkled bills. Shockingly, he would also pilfer cash from the machines during this process, as revealed in the ‘factual basis of guilt’ contained in the plea agreement.

Cook admitted to stealing various denominations of cash on at least 32 separate occasions, resulting in a staggering total of $84,564, which he then converted for personal use.

The federal theft charge against Cook was initially indicted in March. Following his arraignment in May and his release on $10,000 bail, Cook and his legal team opted for a plea agreement, ultimately admitting his guilt in late August. The plea deal stipulates that Cook must make full restitution of the stolen money to Gun Lake Casino. 

Another Michigan Casino Worker Faces Million-Dollar Bail in $700,000 Embezzlement Case

Another similar case in the state saw Danika Young, a 38-year-old cash cage supervisor at the Four Winds Hartford Casino in Michigan, accused of embezzling $700,000. She was arrested and her bail was set at $1 million.

Young claimed she received a call instructing her to take the money to Indiana, but the funds remain unrecovered. She faced charges related to embezzlement and could potentially serve up to 20 years in prison if sentenced. Judge Arthur Clarke expressed concern about the missing money and set a high bail to prevent Young from disappearing.

At the same time in neighboring Minnesota, Blake Carl Fitzgerald faced potential prison time for operating an illegal gambling scheme on TikTok and Discord. Over three months, he allegedly received $65,103 from customers through CashApp and Venmo, then live-streamed himself playing slot games at casinos, with subscribers choosing the machines.

Fitzgerald kept more than half of the winnings and charged subscribers $5.99, communicating with them on Discord. He now faces three counts of running an illegal gambling operation, which could result in up to three years in prison and significant fines.

The original reporting was done by TMZ which detailed the incident, citing Atlantic City police sources. According to the media, the WWE star did not specifically break any laws in theory. She did have a valid permit for the weapon and produced it when asked by the police.

However, there was a rub – the permit was not valid in New Jersey, which prompted authorities to take the 29-year-old female wrestler into custody. Deville had owned a gun ever since when a man tried to kidnap her in 2020. She was attacked in her home at the time and registered gun ownership shortly after the incident.

The permit though is valid in Florida where Berenato lives. The police had not been too harsh against her, the report suggests, releasing her shortly after, as she awaits summons this month. Her trip to Atlantic City, though, has been mired by the accident. More rumors have circulated that Berenato was travelling to celebrate her engagement to Toni Cassano, a popular fitness model, as per a report by Wrestling Inc.

Berenato herself is an icon within the WWE community, as she has advocated for broader acceptance of LGBT people in the competition and the abolishment of any lingering stigma that may still seep through the organization. She has taken up the role of an openly gay female wrestler and has championed gay rights passionately.

Meanwhile, Berenato has preferred to remain silent about the incident and has not commented on the report. Apart from appearing in court at some point later this month, the WWE star will also be coming to Madison Square Garden in New York on March 12 where she will face off with Charlotte Flair.

The news was confirmed on Friday, with the man having brought in the gun by concealing it in his paints. The gun was not registered and Ronnie Delouth, the man who was injured, will most likely face charges at a new hearing scheduled for Tuesday, February 28 over the incident.

Delouth will most likely remain in medical care prior to his hearing, with no records of him being transferred into police custody just yet. He was rushed to a hospital last Tuesday and is in critical condition. Video footage showed Delouth alone and moseying along across the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas when he collapsed local outlets cited by The Associated Press confirmed.

Video recording also showed that Delouth was able to remove the gun from his person and hide it under a slot machine as security was arriving on the scene. His reaction is understandable as convicted felons are prohibited from carrying arms and the law treats such offences seriously.

Delouth served time in prison over burglary and attempted robbery in 2012 in Las Vegas. His case was not commented on by either an attorney or the property. MGM Resorts International spokesperson Brian Ahern said that the company prohibited firearms at all of its properties and expected such items to be handed over to security for safekeeping while patrons were on the premises.

More Gun Accidents and Violence Across Casino Properties

A similar case was registered in Massachusetts, taking place close to another MGM Resorts property, Springfield. The police took down an armed gunman on Saturday. The suspect was acting aggressively towards others and prompted concern that he may be about to carry out a gun attack inside the property. However, he decided to leave instead.

It was unclear whether he had the gun with him on the property before he left and was met by police outside. The suspect opened fire at the Massachusetts State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit and local police units from Springfield.

In the exchange, he was wounded and taken to Springfield’s Baystate Medical Center which is less than three miles away from the place of the shootout. The man passed away from his wounds, with no further information available to the public as to who he was.
