Across the globe, gambling operators enter into arrangements with individuals who help them bring high rollers to their casino floors. Companies that offer such activities are known as junket operators across Asia. In the United States, people who help bring high rollers to casinos are known as independent agents. It’s not a surprise that licensed gambling operators in Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world, engage with independent agents who help them boost their business.

Usually, independent agents have ties with rich individuals and have access to incentives for their customers. Unsurprisingly, independent agents usually earn commissions based on individual clients they refer to casinos. Some agents work with multiple casino operators, in an effort to ensure the best experiences for their big-spending customers.

Now, a new report reveals that the gambling watchdog in Nevada approved changes to the regulatory framework for registered independent agents in the state. As announced by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) greenlighted changes to Regulation 25 for independent agents that help bring high-roller customers to the state’s casino operators.

Previously, gambling operators had to submit mandatory quarterly reports revealing financial data regarding the independent agents they collaborate with. This requirement was later changed to annual reporting, before the most recent change. Under the new rules, licensed gambling operators would have to hold records for the activities of independent agents rather than submitting reports.

Per the change, licensees would have to be able to present the recorded data for the independent agents they work with. They will be required to keep such a record for a period of five years and present it in case of an inspection by the state’s gambling regulator.

Reducing the Regulatory Burden for Gambling Operators

The approved change effectively seeks to reduce the paperwork gambling operators are required to go through every year. Still, licensees would be required to keep on file information such as when they entered into a contract with an independent agent, when that contract end and how much was the agent paid.

According to Diane Presson, a supervisor with the NGC, there are more than 300 independent agents that are collaborating with casinos across Nevada. She added that some of those agents have active business-to-business relationships with multiple resorts at the same time. Finally, Presson pointed out that while the Commission will retain monitoring of the activities of independent agents, it has decided to leave this “at the property level” rather than requiring the operators to report those activities annually.

Global gaming and sports betting leader Entain has reinforced its board with the appointment of Amanda Brown as an independent non-executive director (NED). The experienced appointee has years of experience in corporate leadership roles and is a valuable addition to the team.

Brown will officially join the team on November 8, also becoming a member of Entain’s Remuneration Committee.

The new appointee boasts an impressive track record that includes various positions at multiple notable companies. She was most recently chief human resources officer at Hiscox. During her time at the company she also served as a member of its senior leadership team but stepped down in 2022.

In addition, Amanda is currently a NED and Remuneration Committee chair of Mitchells & Butlers, as well as a NED and chair designate of the Remuneration Committee at the Manchester Airport Group.

Her previous experiences include time as a NED and Remuneration Committee chairperson at Micro Focus International.

Entain’s new hire also boasts a degree in English from Reading University.

Gibson Welcomed Brown to the Entain Family

Entain’s chairman, Barry Gibson, welcomed the new hire on board, praising her experience in business and board positions. He said that he trusts her ability to help Entain’s board and help Entain enact its corporate strategy.

On behalf of the Board, I am delighted to welcome Amanda to Entain. Amanda brings a wealth of international business and board experience. I am confident that her skills and expertise will further enhance the Board’s ability to support and oversee the delivery of our strategy.

Barry Gibson, chair, Entain

Entain’s official announcement concluded that there are no details to disclose for Amanda Brown under Listing Rule 9.6.13. The company also noted that she currently does not own any Entain ordinary shares.

Recent Entain Developments

In other news, Entain’s chief executive officer, Jette Nygaard-Andersen, recently teased that the tie-up with MGM Resorts is unlikely to be permanent. Her statement caused industry experts to suggest that a possible MGM takeover attempt of Entain might be on the table.

Nygaard-Andersen’s statement came just after Entain announced its plans to downscale Unikrn amid changing priorities and regulatory headwinds.

At the beginning of this month, on the other hand, Entain completed its $100 million acquisition of Angstrom Sports. The deal, according to the company, will help the casino giant “unlock significant opportunities” in the US market.

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA), a body governing racing in the United Kingdom, has expanded its team with two new additions. As announced by the regulator, Kyrsten Halley and Tara Warren will join its board as independent non-executive directors (NEDs).

Halley joined the company on May 1 and will serve an initial three-year term. Halley will replace Joe Saumarez Smith who was recently promoted to chairman of the authority.

As someone with more than 10 years of experience in senior leadership positions, Halley has all the skills needed to serve the company. Her specialty is brand strategy, digital marketing and delivering transformational change, the BHA announced.

In addition, Halley is a passionate fan of racing who loves spending time with her retired thoroughbred horse. Éclair Mag.

Tara Warren, on the other hand, will begin her three-year term on December 1. She will replace the outgoing independent NED Laura Whyte, who is leaving the authority after serving her maximum term.

Warren is experienced with sports-related leadership positions and is currently the executive director and board member of West Ham United FC. In addition to that, she directs the club’s equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Just like Halley, Warren is no stranger to horseracing and is a regular racegoer.

The New NEDs Are Looking Forward to Contributing to British Racing

The two women commented on their new position, sharing their delight to join the BHA board. Halley noted that now is a “critical time” for British racing and noted that it is important to shape racing’s future. She said that she is looking forward to contributing to this objective and helping the BHA harness tech to appeal to young bettors.

Warren, meanwhile, called the opportunity to work with the board a “huge privilege”. She said that she is excited to support the development and delivery of racing’s long-term plan, teasing that a key element will be revenue growth.

Joe Saumarez Smith, BHA’s chair, welcomed the two new hires to the board. He praised their passion for racing, as well as their robust experiences in commerce, marketing, customer engagement and transformational change.

Saumarez used the opportunity to thank Laura Whyte for her exceptional service and said that British racing might not have been the same without her.

The BHA noted that the new appointments followed an “extensive and competitive” recruitment campaign that was led by the Nominations Committee. The committee, which is comprised of representatives from the British racing scene, made the two recommendations.

At the beginning of 2023, the BHA handed down a 15-year career-ending ban to Danny Brock, a promising jockey who fixed games.
