The Humberside Police have issued an appeal to locals who might have doorbell footage or witness information to share in regard to a report concerning an attempted burglary on Endike Lane in Hull. 

Attempted Burglary During the Night

The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, November 14. At around 4:30 am, the police were called to investigate a claim from a local resident that three men were trying to gain entry into Merkur Slots casino using power tools. 

It was the sound of the said power tools that woke up the Good Samaritan who most likely saved the casino from what could have brought them some serious damage.

Officers were deployed to the casino located on Endike Lane. Upon their arrival, the trio managed to flee the scene in a white BMW. He is believed to have traveled in the direction of 21st Avenue towards Cranbrook Avenue. The other two potential burglars are believed to have run toward Greenwood Avenue.

The authorities have made an appeal to anyone who possesses any kind of information in relation to the case, including dash cam or CCTV footage in the area nearby to assist them with their inquiries by contacting them on their non-emergency number 101 quoting log 35 of 14 November.

$1 Million in Casino Chips Stolen from Genting Highlands

At the start of the month, we reported on a $1 million casino theft at Genting Highlands that resulted in 10 people being detained. 

Genting Highlands is a top-tier gaming and entertainment property operated by leading gaming company Genting Malaysia. The thieves broke into the room where the casino chips worth around $1 million were stored on October 28, which led to the police being notified of the break-in. 

The investigation is still ongoing, and the authorities refrained from disclosing any extra information on the case details. The version of an inside job was not, however, ruled out. 

Ex-Police Officer Sentenced for Casino Heists

Last month, an ex-police officer in Las Vegas was sentenced for a series of casino heists at three major casinos in Sin City that resulted in the theft of over $160,000 between November 2021 and February 2022. 

Caleb M. Rogers received a 12-year federal prison sentence by US District Judge Andrew P. Gordon, at the end of a shocking trial that revealed the casino robberies. 

Apparently, Rogers wore dark clothes, black latex gloves, and a face mask while executing the robberies with amazing precision.

A group of friends gambling in a garage were able to successfully fight off two armed robbers that abruptly interrupted them, a new viral video released on Instagram reveals. Released earlier this week, the viral video claims that the incident took place at a private home on Alaska Street in Tacoma, Washington.

While gambling in a garage, a group of three Vietnamese men is interrupted by two armed thugs with hoodies. The men aggressively enter the garage that is left with an open door, with one of the thugs shouting “Freeze,” and waving a long-barreled rifle in the air.

The surprising attack shocked the three men, but that did not stop them from getting back at their attackers. When the thugs approached the gamblers one of them shouted “What the f**k, man?” After that, the robbers told the three men to give everything they have, including money, phones and keys.

The robbers shouted at the three men, telling them to hurry up and give their possessions. “Give everything! Hurry up,” says one of the robbers and hits the table in front of the three Vietnamese men which had some money on it, cards and cups, likely with alcoholic beverages.

Then, one of the robbers hits one of the unarmed men. In a split second, all three Vietnamese men jumped up and attacked the robbers without any fear of the gun they saw moments earlier. In the brawl, the men go off camera but can be seen dropping to the ground and throwing fists just outside of the garage.

Two of the Attackers Were Reportedly Arrested

In a video showing the aftermath of the attempted robbery, the three men are clearing up the mess from the entrance of the garage that was the result of the brawl. One of the men is seen holding an assault rifle, likely the one that belonged to one of the robbers. After placing the items inside the garage, the men proceeded to shut the door.

One user online suggested that they are related to two of the Vietnamese men who were attacked. The online user claimed that the two robbers were accompanied by two other individuals who waited in a getaway car. In the commotion, the user said, the people in the car hit a vehicle belonging to one of the victims. After that, all of the attackers fled the scene.

According to the online user, two of the men involved in the attempted robbery were already detained. Still, the released videos did not show the presence of police officers neither sirens can be heard.

For just a few days, the videos accumulated thousands of views and an avalanche of comments. One online user joked around writing “Vietnamese don’t play,” while another one claimed that the booze the trio had been enjoying helped them overcome the fear of the armed robbers.

A recent Men’s Health survey on sports betting habits among US male residents has unveiled a significant trend – millennial black men are outpacing their white counterparts in the frequency of sports betting. 

Survey Unveils Complex Dynamics of Ethnicity, Age, and Technology in Sports Gambling

Among the 3,800 American men surveyed, the findings challenge conventional assumptions, shedding light on a complex relationship between ethnicity, age, and technology in the realm of sports gambling.

Of those surveyed, 1,500 admitted to placing at least one sports bet in the past year, a figure that provides a unique perspective on the landscape of sports gambling.

Millennials, known for their comfort with technology, have emerged as the most active participants in sports betting. The convenience of mobile applications and online platforms has driven their engagement, resulting in an increased frequency of betting. Strikingly, millennial Black men have emerged as the frontrunners in this trend, betting more frequently compared to their white counterparts.

It is interesting to note that the LGBTQ+ community is not represented in this survey, however, another recent study showed that such communities are at higher risk of problem gambling.

Technology has undoubtedly played a role in shaping the habits of the modern bettor. A majority of those surveyed, a striking 76%, revealed that they place their bets through mobile applications or computers, and the evolution of app-based wagering has led to an increase in betting frequency for two-thirds of the respondents.

Favored Sports and Sportsbook Operators Unveiled in Survey Results

The survey also sheds light on the favored sports among bettors, with football, basketball, and baseball taking the top spots. An interesting trend emerged in the preference for sportsbook operators, with 61% of respondents favoring DraftKings and 56% choosing FanDuel. Another noteworthy finding is the preference for professional sports over college athletics, with 56% of respondents indicating a preference for the former.

While the sports betting landscape has experienced considerable growth since the overturning of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in 2018, the survey has highlighted that concerns remain. A notable portion of 34% of respondents expressed annoyance at commercials run by sportsbook companies during games, and 38% felt that broadcasters should abstain from making betting references while on air.

The survey reveals a concerning aspect, as 44% struggle to enjoy sports without feeling compelled to bet, while 58% report detrimental effects on their mental health, including stress, anxiety, and depression. Nearly 4 out of 5 individuals admit to experiencing anxiety while betting, reflecting the emotional intensity tied to such activities. Additionally, 43% indicate that sports betting has taken a toll on their physical well-being, contributing to issues like headaches, high blood pressure, and weight gain.
