Inter Miami Needs to Get Back on the Winning Track

Lionel Messi missed Inter Miami’s last four games. Did they do well without him? Nope. They lost two of those and drew the other two. One of those defeats happened on Wednesday evening in Chicago where they lost 4-1 against the Fire.

The result of all this is that the Herons are now five points behind the closest team from the playoff zone. The good news is that they have one game in hand, meaning that if they win on Saturday, they’d reduce the point gap to just two points.

So, can they beat FC Cincinnati? If Messi returns, they could do it. But he remains questionable for Saturday’s duel, the same as his former Barcelona teammate, Jordi Alba. He probably won’t be 100% fit, but we do expect coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino to let him play. After all, this game is way too important for Messi to miss it.

FC Cincinnati Have Already Finished Their Regular-Season Work

FC Cincinnati has won the 2023 MLS Supporters’ Shield – the award given to the team with the best record in the regular season.

Whatever happens in the remainder of the season, FC Cincinnati will stay at the top of the Eastern Conference table. This means that they can relax on Saturday. This also means that their coach can keep some of his key men sidelined in order to ensure they remain 100% fit for the 2023 playoffs.

He did something like that earlier this week against the New York Red Bulls, the result of which was that Cincy lost 2-1.

If Inter Miami wins against FC Cincinnati on Saturday, October 7, this team will get one step closer to the playoffs. But even a victory won’t mean booking the ticket to the postseason. However, not winning on Saturday would mean the end of the Herons’ playoff dreams.

Orlando City Would Love to Get One Over Its Rival

Orlando City might not be the team with the best roster in the MLs, but these guys have been doing great in 2023. They’re currently second in the Eastern Conference, with just a few points away from securing a spot in the 2023 MLS Playoffs.

Although there are no major stars in Orlando City’s locker room, these guys have been playing great as a collective. They’re equally good offensively and defensively, which their score difference proves. So far this season, they’ve scored 45 goals while conceding 36.

What’s interesting about Orlando City’s performances in 2023 is that this team always shows up in big matches. For instance, each of Orlando’s three wins happened against teams that are doing great this season – St. Louis City, Columbus Crew, and FC Cincinnati. Each of these was in the top three in their conference when they played against Orlando City.

Can Inter Miami Do Without Messi (Again)?

As confirmed by coach Gerardo Martino, Lionel Messi will not play against Orlando City due to an injury. The same was the reason why he left the pitch in the 37^th minute of the game with Toronto FC when it was still 0-0 on the scoreboard.

Finnish winger Robert Taylor was the one who replaced him, which proved to be a great decision by coach Martino. Why? Because Taylor went on to score two goals and make one assist. The Herons are now just five points behind the closest team from the top 9 (DC United) with two games in hand.

Nashville Ready to Get Back to the Winning Track

Nashville SC lost its previous two MLS games – to CF Montreal (1-0) and Columbus Crew (2-0) – but this doesn’t actually mean they’re in horrible form. The thing is that they were the away side in both of those games. Further, their opponents are playing fantastic soccer lately.

Still, the main reason why they lost those games is that a couple of their first-team players were out due to international duties – Jacob Shaffelburg, Fafa Picault, and Anibal Godoy.

These three will miss Saturday’s game as well, but there’s some good news for Nashville SC fans ahead of the DC United duel. For example, the game is played at Geodis Park in Nashville, which is where these guys have been sensational in 2023. They’re 7-2-1 at home this season, with a score differential of 19-6.

The most impressive fact, however, is that they’re without a loss on home tour since March and have a 5-0-0 record in their last five MLS games played in Tennessee.

DC United’s Players Love Being Underdogs

This season, Rooney’s boys also defeated LA Galaxy, Orlando City, Charlotte, and CF Montreal (twice).

Nashville’s Talisman Hany Mukhtar Ready for Another Big Performance

Hany Mukhtar won the MLS Golden Boot last year after scoring 23 goals in 33 games. This year, he’s one of the top favorites to win the award again. Right now, he’s got 10 goals to his name, after playing 17 MLS matches in 2023.

However, in the 2023 season, the German striker isn’t just about scoring. He’s about recording assists as well. So far, he’s made seven of them, which puts him in third-shared place on the list of top assist-makers in the league.

His offensive output has helped Nashville SC get to the No. 2 place in the Eastern Conference. When it comes to the defense, these guys have been working as a collective. Although none of Nashville’s defenders is a superstar player, they’ve done a marvellous job at keeping their net safe in 2023.

The proof of this is that Nashville has conceded just 12 goals thus far, which is fewer than any other team in the entire league. Unfortunately for Gary Smith’s men, their opponent on June 17 is the highest-scoring team in the 2023 MLS.

St Louis City Ready to Start Scoring a Lot Again

With 33 goals in 16 games, this is the highest-scoring team in the MLS in 2023. That accounts for 2.06 goals per game on average. However, the brand-new MLS franchise has scored just one goal in the last two rounds.

As a result, Bradley Carnell’s men were unable to get a win in the last two games, which is why there’s no danger they might drop out from the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference table. To prevent that, they need to start scoring more.

The good news for them is that they definitely have the manpower to find the net at least once on June 17. Their No. 9 Joao Klauss remains injured, but his teammates from St Louis’s offensive department seem to have upped their form lately. For instance, forward Nicholas Gioacchini scored three goals in the last five games and playmaker Eduard Lowen did the same.

Nashville vs. St Louis Prediction

This is going to be one very interesting match. The hosts are favored for a reason, but we doubt Nashville’s defenders will have an easy job against St Louis. In fact, if they want to win, the home boys will have to attack with all they’ve got. As a result, we should see plenty of goals on both ends, with Mukhtar & Co. being the ones to score at least one more than the opposition.

Atlanta United is sitting in the No. 5 position in the MLS Eastern Conference with a 6-5-4 record (23 points), but their recent form isn’t great. The boys from Georgia are 1-2-2 in their last five MLS games, conceding nine goals along the way.

Their defense is actually their Achilles’ heel this season. Atlanta United and Charlotte are the two MLS teams with the worst defense, each allowing 25 goals thus far. “The Five Stripes” are horrible at the back, but their offense has been phenomenal in 2023.

Actually, with 29 goals scored in 15 games, Atlanta is the highest-scoring team in the MLS. Georgios Giakoumakis is their scoring leader with eight goals to his name. The most valuable player from Atlanta’s roster – Thiago Almada – is their second-best scorer with six goals. He’s also recorded eight assists, which is more than any other player in the MLS.

New England Revolution Struggling With Injuries

There are at least six players from New England’s roster who will miss Wednesday’s game. This includes Colombian winger Dylan Borrero who’s this team’s second-most expensive player. Midfielder Brandon Bye will also miss this game, who’s one of New England’s players with the most playing time this season.

Still, even with them on the pitch, New England would still be seen as the underdog in Wednesday’s game. After all, this team’s recent form is dreadful with one draw and three losses in the last four MLS games.

The main reason behind their poor run is their horrible defense. In those four goals, New England conceded nine goals.

Atlanta United vs New England Revolution Prediction
