The Nitropolis series is one of ELK Studio’s most successful productions. Since the first game was released back in 2020 there have been 8 further Nitropolis slots including what was billed as the last ever, Nitropolis 5, which came out last summer. But it turns out that is not the end, and perhaps it’s no surprise that ELK couldn’t resist having just one more roll of the dice (or spin of the reels). Nitropolis TV, the tenth in the series, is set to be available to play at all casinos with ELK Studios slots, from 20th February, 2025. Here we take a deep dive into the game’s design, gameplay and maths.

Design: Less Gritty Than What Came Before

This iteration feels slightly less gritty than its predecessors, taking place atop a building in Nitropolis – though it could be New York with the Empire State Building silhouetted in the background. Either way, the skies are blue and it looks like a worse-for-wear vulture has been busy creating a hastily nailed together backdrop for the reels. It feels homespun and altogether a bit less dark than previous instalments.

The bonus round sees the sun go down and our vulture’s fairy lights turn on for a moodier feel. Overall, it’s clear it belongs to the Nitropolis series, but feels like a bit of a departure from the usual dank, grimy underworld.

Nitro Reels & The Vulture: New Twists on Classic Mechanics

Nitroopolis TV brings back the beloved Nitro Reels mechanic but with a less chaotic approach. They now sit above the grid with their own reel, significantly cutting down on the bedlam. They can drop from 2, to 12 matching symbols at once. Whenever you get a winning combination it triggers a respin of the winning symbols and the Nitro reel. You can also collect stars from symbols to upgrade your nitro reels.

The Vulture Symbol is the newest addition, landing on any spin at random and triggering one of the four features below, before turning into a wild:

• Match Up: Upgrades random low symbols to high pays or wilds.
• Nitro Shift: Rearranges Nitro Reels for better wins.
• Nitro Upgrade: Activates more Nitro Reels or boosts their size.
• Win Both Ways: Wins pay from left to right AND right to left.

Metropolis TV still retains some of that randomness and unpredictability that players love from the previous releases. But, it’s a little toned down. The new and improved Nitro Reel feels less hectic – probably a boost for everybody except the Nitropolis purists.

Free Spins: What’s New?

The free spins round only ever served to up the chaos in previous releases and here it feels similar. If you land 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters then you’ll start the round with 8, 10, 12, or 14 free spins respectively. If you land another scatter during the round then you gain an extra free spin. The key difference during this round is that all activate Nitro Reels are persistent for the whole round. This can lead to some massive payouts.

The Super Bonus Game

If you triggered the bonus game with at least one super scatter then you’ll begin the super bonus game instead. Here, every free spin starts with a Nitro Reel that’s filled with wild symbols and has the Win Both Ways feature activated.

The Stats That Make Nitropolis TV

In terms of stats, Nitropolis TV isn’t far behind others in the series, but crucially, it is behind. It’s played on 6 reels and 4 rows with 4.096 paylines. It has the typical 94% RTP that we come to expect from ELK Studios, alongside high volatility and a decent 10,000x max win. In isolation, and based on numbers alone, it looks like a fairly standard release from ELK. However, when you look at it in comparison to others in the series it falls a little flat.

How Nitropolis TV Compares to Others in the Series

In such a large series, it’s easy to make comparisons. We know that ELK Studios tend to have a 94% RTP, but if we take a look back only three releases ago, you see that it used to be 95.0% as standard, and the very first release was even higher.

The variance in this series hasn’t changed much, but the max win is perhaps the most disappointing column. For three blissful releases we were treated to a 50,000x man win, but for Nitropolis TV, it’s back to 10,000x.

Overall, it stays within the lines set out by other games in the series, but it’s at the bottom of the class in each of them. Whether it’s worth playing will be decided by how engaging the gameplay is and how enduring the love is for the tried and tested Nitropolis theme.

Nitropolis TV: The Verdict? A Toned-Down Twist on a Chaotic Classic

Nitropolis TV takes a lot of what was great about the Nitropolis series and distills it into a game that’s a whole lot easier to follow. The mechanics have been sharpened up and tidied into place, leading to an experience that feels less chaotic than its predecessors.

While the stats aren’t as blisteringly high as some others before it, this game feels like one that will still appeal to Nitropolis fans and might even encourage a few new players to give the reels a spin.
