A Georgia resident has launched a class action lawsuit against Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW) and its subsidiary companies, claiming they are operating illegal online gambling websites within the state. The lawsuit, initiated by Destiny Kennedy, targets VGW Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries, VGW Malta Limited, VGW Luckyland Inc., and VGW GP Limited, for allegedly violating Georgia’s gambling laws by running internet gambling platforms such as Chumba Casino, Global Poker, and LuckyLand Slots.

VGW Falsely Marketing Online Gaming Platforms as ‘Just for Fun’

Kennedy’s complaint, filed in the Georgia Northern District Court on May 17, 2024, asserts that VGW’s activities breach the Georgia Code stipulations. She argues that the company falsely markets its platforms as “just for fun gameplay,” misleading users into believing that the sites are legal and purely for entertainment, according to information published by Top Class Actions

However, Kennedy claims that the real purpose of these sites is to facilitate illegal gambling, as users wager and lose real money through a dual-currency system involving Sweeps Coins and Gold Coins.

Kennedy’s legal action seeks to represent a broader class of Georgia residents who have lost money on VGW’s platforms. Kennedy reports a personal loss of approximately $1,150 from playing games on the implicated websites. The lawsuit demands monetary compensation for these losses and requests a jury trial to address the grievances of all affected consumers in Georgia.

VGW’s model, which includes both free-to-play currency and a purchasable Sweeps Coins system that can be redeemed for cash, is at the core of the allegations. Kennedy argues that while the sites allow for gameplay without real money, the primary goal is to encourage users to buy Sweeps Coins, thus disguising the gambling aspect under a veneer of legality.

Kennedy Opted Out of VGW’s Arbitration Agreement

The case also highlights Kennedy’s proactive stance in opting out of VGW’s arbitration agreement, which typically redirects disputes to private arbitration rather than court trials. This move distinguishes her case from similar lawsuits that have been compelled to arbitration due to the terms agreed upon by users.

VGW has a history of legal challenges in the United States, having previously settled a lawsuit in Kentucky for over $11 million concerning its LuckyLand brand. The outcome of the current lawsuit in Georgia could have significant implications for VGW’s operations in states where online gambling remains heavily regulated or prohibited.

Last year, VGW also had to withdraw from the Michigan market, discontinuing its social gaming brands Chumba Casino, Global Poker, and Luckyland Slots, after facing regulatory pressure.

As the Georgia case proceeds, VGW has yet to respond to the allegations.

On May 20, Casey of Vancouver, Washington hit a $1.7 million jackpot on Super Bowl Jackpots. The game is Aristocrat Gaming’s National Football League-themed (NFL) slot title.

The big win was recorded in Grand Ronde, Oregon and it marks the game’s first jackpot over the $1 million mark. It is also the largest wide-area progressive jackpot offered by the leading designer, manufacturer, and distributor of Class III games and Class II Innovations for Native American casinos in the Beaver State.

$3 Birthday Bet Started the Winner’s Birthday Celebration

It only took one $3 bet for Casey, who was celebrating his birthday on a long weekend, to hit the life-changing jackpot.

Attracted by the Super Bowl Jackpots, Casey placed his bet on the Atlanta Falcons theme and mistakenly understood that he had won $1,700 right before he shockingly discovered he was the rightful winner of a whopping $1.7 million jackpot.

The avid Atlanta Falcons fan chose his favorite team from a long list of 32 professional NFL teams spread nationwide as part of the NFL Slots portfolio launched by Super Bowl Jackpots.

The portfolio features a customizable option that enables gamblers to play any of the available teams based on their exact preferences for the opportunity to score a $1 million progressive jackpot, where allowed.

Players can also engage in additional gameplay thanks to the introduction of the timed 2-Minute Drill, which is a field goal-kicking bonus, along with favorite stadium anthems, and more.

The First in the Series

The game, which represented the culmination of the two-year partnership between the NFL and the NFL Players Association, started to be distributed by Aristocrat Gaming at the end of last August.

The game was set to be the first in a series of fresh games made available at 27 casinos located in eight US states (Nevada, California, Oklahoma, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Arizona) several months before the general US launch.

In January 2024, Aristocrat announced the launch of the NFL Super Bowl Link ahead of the Super Bowl.

The Class III game was launched on Aristocrat Gaming’s iconic MarsX Portrait cabinet and is a highly volatile game with average feature frequency, engaging fans with fun NFL action, an SSP jackpot starting at $10,000, and SAP jackpots starting at $1,000 and $5,000.

Earlier in the month, Aristocrat announced it was ready to display more than 50 games at the upcoming Global Gaming Expo Asia on June 4-6.

On May 5, the lights of MGM National Harbor shone brighter than ever as a local Virginia resident, who has decided not to disclose his/her identity, grabbed a whopping $1.3 million jackpot payout after playing Ultimate Texas Hold’em. The fortunate player got a winning royal flush in diamonds, which helped him/her score the largest payouts ever recorded in the United States for this popular table game.

Virginia Visitor Strikes Diamond Flush Jackpot

The massive win was preceded by a thrilling sequence of events. First, the player, who is not from Maryland but came to play at MGM National Harbor from neighboring Virginia, was dealt a Queen and a King of diamonds. Those cards ignited a glimmer of hope. As the game progressed, the player felt an even greater tinge of anticipation after he also got the third card, a Jack of diamonds. Then the Ace of diamonds followed on the turn. At the end, the 10 of diamonds completed the flush on the river.

Alex Alvarado, vice president of casino operations at MGM National Harbor, rejoiced in the player’s success, noting: “What an incredible moment for our guest to win this huge jackpot at MGM National Harbor. As an entertainment destination, our mission is to provide a variety of options for guests to have an unforgettable experience — whether at a restaurant, a show, or in the casino. We’re thrilled that a local struck a big payday on one of our many table games that feature progressive jackpots.”

Situated just outside of the city of Washington, D.C., MGM National Harbor is an integrated casino resort offering a variety of amenities and entertainment options. The resort boasts a 23-story hotel with 308 luxury rooms and 135,000 square feet of gaming space.

Beyond the casino floor, guests can explore an array of retail outlets, rejuvenate their senses at the spa, and indulge their palates at seven distinct dining venues offering culinary delights from around the globe.

From Improbability to Fortune

The seven-figure windfall defied astronomical odds, standing at nearly 31,000-to-1, making it a rare and extraordinary feat in high-stakes poker. The sheer rarity of attaining a royal flush in 7-card Texas Hold ‘Em underscores the magnitude of this achievement, with statistical probabilities standing at a mere 0.0032%.

This astronomic win will serve as a glimmer of hope for all players engaging in games with high progressive jackpots that will now dream of their own short at fortune. For the MGM National Harbor casino, this major win is proof of its allure as a premier destination for both high rollers and casual gamblers alike. The casino’s wide range of amenities do not only offer entertainment but also the enticing prospect of life-changing wins.

Cactus Petes Resort Casino is a premium entertainment and gaming destination located in Jackpot, Nevada. Recently, one visitor of the casino was arrested after he allegedly took out a knife when approached by law enforcement. A report released by Elko Daily reveals that the individual, identified with the initials, R.J.C., 41, of Idaho, was arrested on January 6 by a deputy from the Elko County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident at Cactus Petes Resort Casino is related to a call about a woman in distress who requested medical attention. Police were dispatched to the Jackpot casino to speak with the woman who appeared to be “frightened and skittish.” Upon interviewing the alleged victim, law enforcement heard that she was threatened by the 41-year-old suspect.

The woman claimed that if the suspect would not find her in their room, he would have killed her. Additionally, the woman, whose name was not disclosed, stated she was subject to battery, showing recent injuries, allegedly caused by the person who was subsequently detained.

After collecting the woman’s statement, police examined a bruise that “appeared to be recent.” This prompted the deputy from Elko County Sheriff’s Office to search for the person suspected of the crime.

The Suspect Was Arrested on Multiple Charges

It hasn’t taken long for law enforcement to find the 41-year-old suspect. He appeared to be at the front desk of the hotel casino, asking where the woman was located. After he was approached by police, the suspect shouted, “I have a knife” and allegedly drew a knife that he held clumsily. This action resulted in the deputy tasing the perpetrator who was subsequently arrested.

Reportedly, the 41-year-old was arrested on charges of domestic battery and assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person. Additionally, he is held on charges of assault with a deadly weapon against a first responder as well as resisting while in possession of a dangerous weapon other than a firearm.

Upon examining the individual’s record, law enforcement uncovered that he had a non-extradition warrant issued from California, along with a fugitive from justice warrant from his home state, Idaho. According to police officers, the person did not appear in court which resulted in the order issued from Ada County in Idaho.

Elsewhere in Nevada, a felon faces charges after sex trafficking a minor. The perpetrator used a firearm that he possessed illegally to threaten an underage girl, forcing her into prostitution.

The latest lucky soul to walk away with seven figures to his name is a New Jersey resident by the name of Joseph W. who was happy to pose for the photo-op and celebrate the $1,000,000 win he flipped on $10 Powerball tickets.

Jackpocket New Jersey Customer Wins It Big

The New Jersian used the Jackpocket app to place a quick purchase and scoop up a winning ticket in the process with Joseph still not fully cognizant of what has happened. “It hasn’t really set in yet,” he told Jackpocket who used the opportunity to remind that people who use their services end up winning.

The winnings will be divvied up fairly by the family, as Joseph wants to share the pot with his kids and grandkids – a nice little financial cushion to bring along even more holiday mirth.

The winning ticket was placed on Quick Pick, which was drawn on December 13 with the winning numbers 3, 8, 41, 56, and 64. Although his ticket was a close Powerball near-miss, Joseph doesn’t seem to regret the way things turned out.

Joseph first started gambling on Jackpocket back in 2020 when the company was only starting to make waves in the market, hoping to expand and consolidate its presence at a time when shutdowns made it harder to buy physical tickets. Joseph’s jackpot story is certainly the right step in this direction. Yet, this is not the biggest and only prize won during the same drawing from a Jackpocket user.

Another lucky saw also got a hit with their Quick Pick ticket on the same draw, winning $2 million in Texas. They had also used the Jackpocket app to purchase the winner, but the company did not provide further details about this winner, supposedly at their request.

In October this year, another person won $2 million in New Jersey, but their name has also not been shared with the public. The same month, a person from New York ended up also winning $2 million, making for a strange succession of winners.

Making Jackpots Easier to Take a Shot At

In the meantime, Jackpocket Founder and CEO Pete Sullivan was very happy with the new winner and the opportunity to publicize the innovative approach Jackpocket has provided for people to purchase tickets and participate in lottery draws, highlighting the level of convenience but also the luck that is often befalling Jackpocket customers.

“Jackpocket was founded on the idea that the lottery should be accessible and convenient, and we are thrilled when we get to celebrate a major win like this one,” Sullivan said. Jackpocket has turned dozens of people into millionaires by now, with many people winning between $1 and $3 million over the past several months.

The California Lottery has officially announced a historic win in the Powerball drawing held on July 19. A lucky ticket sold at the Las Palmitas Mini Market in downtown Los Angeles, a neighborhood known for its struggles with homelessness and crime, has matched all six winning numbers, securing an astounding $1.08 billion jackpot, making it the third-largest in Powerball history since its inception in 1992.

Store Owner Elated After Selling $1.08B Powerball Jackpot Ticket

California regulations require the winner to be publicly identified, adding to the anticipation and curiosity surrounding this extraordinary event.

The store owner, Nabor Herrera, was elated to discover that he had sold the winning ticket at his shop. Speaking in Spanish, Herrera expressed his joy and speculated that the winner might be a Latino, given that most of his customers are from the Latino community.

Herrera is also set to receive the substantial sum of $1 million for selling the winning $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot ticket. Having owned the store for seven years, Herrera expressed his intentions to utilize the seller bonus to expand his business, further enhancing the Las Palmitas Mini Market’s offerings and services. Additionally, he plans to create unforgettable memories with his family by treating them to a well-deserved vacation in either Cabo San Lucas or Cancun, Mexico.

Emotional Reactions Unfold as Woman Claims Powerball Jackpot at Las Palmitas Mini Market

Amidst the celebrations, a woman claiming to be the lucky winner made an appearance at the Las Palmitas Mini Market, where reporters were quick to capture her emotional reaction on camera, reported The Independent. Overwhelmed with joy, she embraced strangers and fought back tears.

However, some scepticism arose within the community regarding the authenticity of her claims. Sarai Palacios, the granddaughter of the store owner, suggested that the woman might be faking her emotional outburst, speculating that she might have sought attention and media coverage.

In contrast, Herrera’s daughters believed that the woman could indeed be the daughter of one of their regular customers, adding a layer of intrigue to the unfolding saga.

California Lottery spokesperson Carolyn Becker assured the public that they would conduct a thorough verification process to ensure the legitimacy of the winner’s claim. During a press conference, Becker emphasized that anybody claiming to be the winner wouldn’t be considered valid until they said it was.

In other news, a man from Dayton, Ohio, became Jackpocket’s 30th millionaire after winning $1 million in the Powerball. The leading lottery app in the US reached a significant milestone, with more people using the platform for a chance to win life-changing sums, as the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots continue to grow.

With gambling continuously proving to be a favorite pastime of many Americans, it is hardly surprising that many people do manage to land a jackpot. With that in mind, here are some of the latest lucky players in the US.

Grandfather Reaps Jackpot, Vows to Share It with Grandchildren

An elderly man managed to win a $556,120 jackpot at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California, a tribal property operated by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. On May 25, the player won while playing on a Bonus Times progressive machine at the venue.

According to local media reports, the grandfather hit the jackpot on his second attempt for the day. He spoke with local officials and said that he was bewildered to see three 10s come up.

The man joked that one of the first things to spend the money on is paying the taxes on the jackpot. After that, he plans to buy a new car for one of his granddaughters and fund his other two grandchildren’s college.

PA Man Turns $300-Buy-In into a $1M Payday

During the Memorial Day weekend a few days later, a Pennsylvania man by the name of Pete Mitchell won $936,996 while playing at a casino in South Philadelphia.

Mitchell was playing Ultimate Texas Hold ‘Em at the Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia property and decided to go all-in for his last wager. Mitchell’s $300-buy-in turned into a payday of almost a million when he was dealt a Royal Flush

Not only did the player take thousands of dollars home but he also became a part of the casino history since this is the largest progressive jackpot won at the property.

Las Vegas Continues to Consistently Distribute Jackpots

An anonymous player at Caesars Palace was playing Ultimate X video poker when they landed on four aces, effectively landing on a $200,000 jackpot at the same time.

Two days later, another anonymous player won a whopping $2,198,173 by playing a Wheel of Fortune Gold Spin Triple Gold MegaTower machine at ARIA Resort & Casino Las Vegas.

The developer of the gambling terminal, International Game Technology, addressed the matter, saying that the lucky winner has won the jackpot after wagering $7 on the game.

Recently, another Caesars player won a jackpot, this time when playing 88 FORTUNES online. The winner was Stacy M. from Edgewater, New Jersey, who won the $308.914 jackpot.

Speaking of jackpots, IGT smashed its jackpot record in April, distributing $17 million to lucky players.

A regulatory authority in Hungary, scrutinizing the operations of gambling activities, announced it imposed a financial penalty against an unnamed individual over organizing illegal games of chance. On Thursday, the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities (SZTFH), confirmed it imposed a hefty fine against a private individual that was found organizing a real estate lottery.

The person, whose name wasn’t revealed, faced a HUF 30 million ($87,000) financial penalty. The Supervisory Authority explained that it remains committed to investigating any attempts for illegal or unlicensed gambling. It said that such crimes can be punished with fines that range between HUF 500,000 to HUF 100 million for the organizers.

The Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities recently imposed a HUF 30 million fine on a private individual for organizing a real estate lottery as an unlicensed game of chance,

reads a statement released by the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities

At the same time, the SZTFH said that unlicensed gambling is subject to criminal prosecution. Organizers of such events can face a penalty of up to three years in prison, along with fines. Similarly, the Authority safeguards consumers from illegal gambling advertisements. If such advertisements are found, the person involved in the ad, the publisher, as well as the advertising service provider may be subject to fines.

In unlicensed gambling, the player participates at his own risk, the Authority does not have the authority to enforce the handing over of prizes, and the enforceability of claims in court is also doubtful,

added the Supervisory Authority

Increased Interest in Lotteries Is Observed

According to the Supervisory Authority, recently, an increase in the interest in different real-estate and high-value items lotteries was observed. It said that in some cases, notaries were involved. However, the Authority reminded, that even if a notary is involved, this doesn’t mean that such raffles or lotteries are legal.

Citing the existing regulations, the Authority said that raffles or lotteries are defined as games of change where a player can win cash or another prize with monetary value in exchange for money. Given that such games rely on chance, this makes them a regulated activity. In other words, businesses, organizations or associations cannot offer legal games of chance without the proper licensing and authorization, reminded the SZTFH.
