The Spanish Digital Gaming Association (Jdigital), announced that the country’s Supreme Court has partially upheld the association’s appeal against Royal Decree 958/2020, a piece of legislation which introduced several restrictions for the industry. However, Jdigital called for more dialogue with the Spanish regulator in order to put the country’s iGaming market on the right path.

The Spanish Supreme Court decided to partially uphold an appeal lodged by Jdigital and annulled several measures stipulated in the Royal Decree 958/2020, which came into effect in November 2020. Almost four years later the Supreme Court ruled that several articles in that decree lacked legal basis.

One of the annulled bits of legislation was article 13, which was related to targeted advertisements towards new customers. Following the Supreme Court’s decision iGaming operators in Spain will once again be able to advertise their products to players who have held an account for less than 30 days. Moreover, they will be able to advertise in venues with public accessibility which sell lottery games.

The ruling by the Supreme Court also allows celebrities to appear in gaming advertising again, while the ban on gambling ads on video sharing platforms was overturned as well. This means that iGaming operators can advertise their products to social media users, but only to those above 18 years of age.

Very Positive News

A previous appeal by Jdigital was rejected by Spain’s constitutional court in November 2023. The victory at the Supreme Court was described by Jdigital in a statement as “very positive news for the online gaming sector.”

However, the Spanish Digital Gaming Association argued that the measures that remain in place still impose several limitations that are considered too restrictive by the industry. For example, the ban on advertising between 1am and 5am both on radio and television remains in place, as it is covered by the General Law of Audiovisual Communication.

Moreover, Article 12 of the Royal Decree 958/2020 was not annulled, which means that iGaming operators still can not use branding for events that minors can see or sponsor sporting events or broadcasts. That said, Jdigital called for increased dialogue between the iGaming industry and the regulatory authorities in order to boost responsible gambling efforts while also allowing sustainable growth for the industry.

A deadly shooting has ruined the celebratory parade for the Kansas City Chiefs, leaving at least one person dead. The assailants didn’t spare children either, hurting almost a dozen kids.

The shooting follows last weekend’s Super Bowl which saw the Kansas City Chiefs triumph over the San Francisco 49ers. Fans in Kansas City held a parade to celebrate their city team’s victory without expecting it to end in grief.

According to the latest information as of the time of this writing, a total of 22 people were shot, one of whom died. Among the others, eight sustained life-threatening injuries, while another seven suffered injuries that could potentially be life-threatening. The rest of those struck by gunfire suffered non-threatening injuries, according to Kansas City authorities.

The 22 people who were hit by the gunfire included nine children who, luckily, are expected to make full recovery. These included individuals aged between 6 and 15.

As mentioned, one person, later identified as DJ Lisa Lopez, host of “Taste of Tejano,” unfortunately died on the spot.

The adult victims were rushed to Truman Medical Center and St. Luke’s Hospital, while the hurt children were rushed to Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Three Men Were Arrested, No Charges Have Been Made Official

In the shooting’s aftermath, local authorities apprehended three people believed to be connected with the shooting. Luckily, there were already over 800 police officers tasked with monitoring the parade, who acted immediately. More details about the three arrestees are yet to be published.

According to reports, fans of the Chiefs apprehended one of the shooters. The Chiefs themselves were not hurt and, despite the stress, worked to calm down scared children.

The attack sparked an outrage on social media as people accused the violence. Their sentiments were echoed by the Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves who expressed her condolences to the victims and their families and slammed the senseless shooting.

Lens seemed to be in complete control of the contest up until the midfielder in Salis Abdul Samed was ejected for a reckless challenge on the right back, Achraf Hakimi, during the 19^th – minute of match play.

A hand – ball from Paris Saint – Germain’s midfielder, Fabian Ruiz, after a corner – kick gave Lens a penalty – shot, and the Polish winger, Przemysław Frankowski, sent goal – keeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, to the wrong side during the 60^th – minute of game play.

Lens’ 15 – goal top scorer in Loïs Openda put up a shot that was saved during the 64^th – minute, and then he forced a corner – kick as the visitors kept up the intense pressure on Paris Saint – Germain.
