French-Canadian online streamer who started his career as a professional Overwatch player, Félix Lengyel, whom you might know as xQc (ex xQcOW), has made an announcement that sparked plenty of heated conversations in the streaming community. 

The Twitch and Kick streamer said he was planning on giving up gambling after he shared a link with his online community, showcasing a massive $5 million win on Stake.com. The latter is a popular online crypto-gambling platform that boasts about offering the best casino and sports betting platforms for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. 

xQc Took It to His Offline Chat to Make the Announcement 

Last September, Twitch announced an important update to its policy aimed at forbidding content creators from streaming from gambling sites featuring roulette, slots, and dice games that are not licensed in the US and other gambling markets with consumer protections in place. 

Before the controversial ban was imposed, xQc had become one of the top “gamba” (gambling) streamers there. After the streaming platform made the crucial announcement, xQc decided to move his gambling content to Kick, Twitch’s direct competitor launched on October 18, 2022. 

The Juicer who had been streaming on Twitch almost on a daily basis therefore resumed his gambling. His debut gambling stream on Kick ended with an impressive win of over $553,000.

Now, xQc has announced he would put an end to his gambling habits online after hitting an impressive $5 million win in an online game. The news follows the streamer’s $1.1 million gambling loss in Las Vegas.

xQc used his offline chat to share a screenshot showcasing the whopping win on Stake.com while also letting his viewers and subscribers know that he had already cashed out the money and that he would not be gambling anymore. 

$1.5 Billion in Wagers

In September 2023, the streamer also openly shared his statistics on the Stake.com platform with his viewers, proving that he had placed no less than 788,877 bets there. Out of these bets, xQc won 76,398. The rest of the bets were losing ones. 

The French-Canadian streamer and online personality also emphasized the fact that his wagers had gone over the $1.5 billion mark.

It remains to be seen if xQc will truly give up gambling, as the streamer has a track record of not always disclosing the full truth with his community.

In the spring of 2022, xQc openly spoke about his gambling addiction on Twitch, explaining that he felt compelled to take unnecessary risks in every game he plays while also claiming that he “can afford to be ill”. 

Last month, Stake.com announced that a cyberattack affected its ETH/BSC hot wallets, leading to $41 million in losses.

The multimedia content and technology company, SportsGrid, confirmed support for the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Responsible Marketing Code for Sports Wagering. Vowing to support the code, the company revealed that its multimedia content platform will align with the requirements that ensure a responsibility standard for the marketing and advertising of sports betting activities.

Joining the AGA for this initiative, SportsGrid becomes the latest company to support responsible gaming by adhering to a code that seeks to set a new standard for advertising. Additionally, the efforts will also help encourage more bettors to make informed decisions by promoting responsible gaming messaging.

Casey Clark, AGA’s SVP, explained that it is incredibly important for stakeholders within the sector to understand that responsibility is paramount. According to him, the support of companies such as SportsGrid will undoubtedly help raise more awareness and contribute toward responsible advertising.

AGA’s Responsible Marketing Code for Sports Wagering was first released back in 2019. The Association explained that the code helped raise the bar for advertising within the sports betting sector by self-imposing restrictions such as marketing language or target audiences. With the help of AGA members, the Code has gone through important updates and improvements.

Adam Kaplan, SportsGrid’s chief operating officer, acknowledged that the company is delighted to show support for AGA’s initiative. He explained: “SportsGrid’s management is committed to supporting the Code across the marketing and advertising of sports wagering on the company’s multimedia platform to promote sound individual decision making by consumers.”

The latest announcement by SportsGrid comes after only recently, the company agreed to support AGA’s Have A Game Plan Campaign. Last week, SportsGrid confirmed it will promote the Association’s responsible gambling campaign. At the time, the company confirmed that it will use its app, website, multimedia platform and live programming to help spread the word about AGA’s campaign, encouraging more people to engage in responsible betting entertainment.

Oakland Athletics’ recent announcement of a $1.5 billion Las Vegas stadium project reverberated across the industry, drawing mixed responses. However, the planned stadium’s proximity to the iconic casino hotel means the Tropicana may temporarily need to close during construction.

A FAQ document by project partner Bally’s Corporation revealed that the Tropicana could cease operations between 18 to 24 months. The company issued an update soon after, clarifying it would keep the property open for as long as possible. However, a temporary closure will likely still be necessary, endangering the livelihoods of the venue’s approximately 120 employees.

Employee Rights Seem in Safe Hands

While Bally’s reiterated its commitment to supporting its employees, the Culinary Union also immediately stepped up, vowing to protect workers in the event of a closure. The union, representing thousands of hospitality workers in the region, has long been a staunch advocate for labor rights and fair treatment within the industry.

Such a pledge is a proactive measure to protect employees’ livelihoods and rights during any potential Tropicana downtime. Any laid-off workers should receive free job training, retain their benefits, and have guaranteed rehiring opportunities once the property reopens.
